Hello Darlings! Today we’re talking about good representation vs bad representation in shows/movies/ or in media.

————————————————————————

What’s good representation?

Good lgbtqia+ representation is when the

character is someone who people can

connect to- someone who is realistic.

Someone who other lgbtqia+ people can

                                relate to.

Good representation reference:

Ruby & Sapphire from Steven Universe.

                           :warning: WARNING :warning:

These characters have genuine love for each

other, they don’t care about what others think.

This can teach viewers that this isn’t a

                       bad thing to feel :)

And that love is truly just love

————————————————————————

What is bad representation?

Bad lgbtqia+ representation is where the

queer character is stereotyped, or is treated

as them being queer is disgusting

or bad. Or, that them being queer

                      gets romanticized.

This can lead to children being hateful

                  towards lgbtqia+ people

or think that they’re bad for being queer.

Bad representation reference:

                A women cop from Onward

This character is overly stereotyped.

And frankly, was overhyped. They gave Disney

a for queer representation. This was in

many articles and all over social media, yet it

                       was for one minute.

                            Love, Simon

The actors for most queer characters in this series characters are straight. They are often

praised for being “brave” to play a queer role.

And a lot of the representation in this

series can be seen as weird.

————————————————————————-

In conclusion, I think that it’s unfair how we are

often portrayed as overly feminine, or

overly masculine. And we are often

stereotyped in media. I believe that we

need more queer representation like She-

ra, Steven Universe, Kipo, and a few

                                   others.

Did you know that love, Simon was based on a book? It’s called ‘Simon vs the homo sapiens agenda’ if you didn’t know. If you haven’t read it yet, I recommend it
