For my example!:

“I blink back tears as I push open the door

A set of stairs before me

I dash up them

The little match in my hand

I finally reach the top

I gaze upwards

A dark starry night

The constellations brighten the sky

Beautiful, perfect, stunning

Tears stream down my face once again

But this time, because I’m finally happy

This is the light I’ve been searching for

I no longer feel sorry for myself, I feel sorry for you

I gazed up and at the starry sky once more

I smiled, for the first time it was genuine

I felt the wooden match in my hand

Looking at it once more,

Tears filled my eyes,

I looked at the blue and green, beautiful

All I could get out was a mere, whispered “thank you”

I found my light

And for that I could say that I was finally happy”

This poem was written by my lovely cousin.

1)What about the poem makes you happy?

The part of this poem that makes me happy is the end where she says that she can finally be happy. She's been through a lot and knowing she getting the happiness she needs and deserves. The way the poem makes me feel about her situation makes me quite happy.

2)What do you think the author tried to symbolize through their poem?

The author is trying to symbolize the bump in the road that she's trying to get over in her life. Closing a door and opening a new one, getting on with her life and becoming free.

3)What about the author or poem inspires you?

The way she uses her words really inspire me in many ways, the emotions that i can feel and picture through her writing. I've always looked up to her and her talented writing, truthfully I want to write as good as her one day.

4)What does it mean/is there a moral?

There is more to this poem but I just picked my favorite part, I think it's after a difficult break up that spiraled out of control. She fell off her feet and now she's getting back up, showing the world that she is strong. She can do this and that guy does not define who she is as a person or lover.
