lesbian
/ˈlɛzbɪən/
A lesbian is a homosexual woman. The word is also used as an adjective to characterize or associate nouns with female homosexuality or same-sex attraction.
Being a lesbian is a monosexual sexuality, which means it only includes one gender (women). That of course doesn’t exclude transgender women.
♡
Having made that clear, it’s important to mention that lesbians should not be described as attracted to non-women. Afab people who don’t identify as women or aligned enbys aren’t part of the attraction. Any gender identities that don’t fall under the binary are not included. It is as simple as that, lesbians are exclusively attracted to women.
STOP reducing sexualities to anything rather than being homosexual/monosexual.
♡
In addition to that, it’s straight up wrong to label lesbians as “nonmen”. This erases the history of our label, we didn’t fight to be seen as normal women just for the meaning of our label to be altered carelessly.
If you’re not strictly a woman (cis or trans doesn’t matter) then you CANT be a lesbian.
♡
Lastly, I’d like to mention “hesbians”. Yes they were a thing in the past, because lesbians had to appear as men so as not to be hate-crimed. They still were never not women.
