Respecting Ships

Hiya! I’m Steeb, and lately I’ve been noticing conflict between ships and people’s opinions on them. Today I’m here to discuss that.

Promoting and demoting

So. To start. Liking and disliking ships is all on you. But just because you really like one ship doesn’t mean that that certain ship is over others. You can claim it’s not but if this ship really isn’t over others, then don’t promote it over others. Like creating a post that respects one and disrespects others. And it’s also okay to dislike ships, but just because you do, doesn’t mean you can diss the ship or demote it. Your opinions are always welcome but save the positivity and negativity for a small discussion in a chat.

Limits of your opinion

Your opinion matters, it really does, it’s just that opinions don’t always need to be shared. Sometimes they need to be kept private. Especially if all you have to say is more negative than positive. As it has before been said “if you do not have anything nice to say, do not say anything at all.” And this is very true.

Respect

What is respect? Respect is showing kindness to someone or something even if you don’t feel the way you act. Respecting ships could be like, for example, you really dislike Ironstrange. Maybe someone made a post about how much they love it. Instead of going and ranting on their post about how much you dislike this ship, maybe you’ll keep quiet and tolerate their opinion. That’s showing respect. Or an example of you showing respect overall could be, you found some art that really demotes a ship. You dislike this ship anyways but you know some people that like it. Instead of posting that art, you keep it to yourself.

How to deal with someone sharing their uncommon opinion on ships you like.

If you post something about a ship you like, and someone starts sharing their uncommon opinion on this that you seem to not like, just ignore them. Not everyone has seen this post so they don’t know how to treat these situations. Sometimes it’s best to just walk away.

We don’t want to cause any conflicts over silly little opinions. , it’s an opinion not a fact, so it’s not worth fighting over. Think about what the consequences might be. And let’s respect each other’s opinions [on ships!]

Thanks for reading!

God bless America!... or wherever you’re from :joy:

If I correctly, I found this on the internet. It’s not mine. I don’t own it nor do I take credit for it.

i respectfully disagree with this post

i dont think people should *respect* ships that are immoral that incest, abuse, pedophilia, but i do think people shouldnt be disrespectful to the shippers and attack them unless they were originally provocative

like i despise thorki with every ounce of my being, but i decide to not attack shippers and distance myself from them. do i respect the ship? no. but do i attack people shipping it? no, because thats dumb.

i dont think people should have to respect the ships, but they shouldnt attack others for it and just stay away from people who ship shit they don’t like, whether it be for a reason like it being incest or just because they don’t see compatibility.

only time ive ever talked with a th*rki was to correct something (specifically that norse mythology isnt as incest-filled as other mythologies). causing arguments over ships is dumb, because no one’s opinion will likely change, and they just get fired up. i feel like respect is the wrong word, but instead i think it should be ‘tolerating ships’

ps. the art of loki is by bifrostedflake i think

True true. It’s all a matter of how you act about the ship and the person shipping it.

You can treat the ship however you want to yourself as long as you don’t cause a scene in public about it.

Sorry to jump in the middle of this but if a friend shows you a ship you don't like all you gotta say is "I don't like it and prefer not to see this again." Or something °`°

Its sad some people act so immature about such meanial things like that... Unless its incest or pedophilia and such... Still a little goes a long way

I want to add, that their are ways to express your opinion, without huffing and puffing your chest out.

You don't need to be flat-out disrespectful, you can state your opinion, without being rude.

I don't agree with plenty of ships and whenever someone asks or creates a poll about it, I am one to state my opinion.

However, It is done with respect. By saying:

"I don't necessarily ship Thorki, but I do think the artwork is cute."

Or

"I don't ship Thorki, but I do enjoy shipping my OC with [Character's name]."

There is no reason to be flat out rude or disrespectful toward and/or about it.

Also, do understand, that if someone doesn't agree with your Ship, that is fine. Not everyone will agree with your preference, as they tend to have their own, and as long as said person isn't being rude about it (e.g. That ship should die, I think that's just downright disgusting, etc.), then It should be fine.

People are not going to always agree with you. That isn't how the world works and If you ask for someone's opinion or answer involving It, then expect them to give it.

Also, let's : These ships are NOT Canon (excluding the obvious: Sigyn and Loki).

So, If someone doesn't agree with your ship, then move along. There's absolutely no reason to be blatantly rude about it.
