Lucifer and Sexuality

Welcome to another post. Today, I’ll be discussing the portrayal of sexuality in ‘Lucifer’. This is something that has fascinated me since the first time I noticed this in the show and so I decided to make a post about it.

Now, full disclosure, I will be discussing non-heterosexual sexualities in this post. I hope nobody in this amino would do this but please do not leave bigoted comments on the post. Anyone who does this WILL be reported to the Moderation Staff. Apologies that I had to say that but I needed to put that out there now.

So, shall we begin?

I’m sounding like Dr Linda now, I know but stick with me here!!

In ‘Lucifer’, sexuality and sexual action is often used as a metaphor for morality, purity, and “proper” angelic behaviour. For example, when Amenadiel becomes a fallen angel, one of the sins he highlights as bad is “sleeping with a demon”. It’s also mentioned to be the first time he had ever engaged in any form of sexual activity.

Alternatively, Lucifer is sexually prolific as one of his primary characteristics, as is the demon Mazikeen. This further uses sex as a metaphor for purity (or rather a lack of purity). Even Goddess, who stands as God’s primary opponent, engages in this sort of behaviour.

I haven’t too much to say on this but just something to think about next time you watch the show back.

Now here is something I must commend ‘Lucifer’ for. The show portrays sexual orientation in a natural way (as natural as a supernatural show can be :satisfied: ).

Especially with Lucifer and Maze, the characters don’t make a big deal of their sexual orientation, it’s just something that is part of their life.

It was nice to see that, rather realistically, the celestial characters were more broad about their sexual orientation. Because, if angels and demons and devils were real, you wouldn’t really expect them to adhere to human rules of sexuality. If there are any other people would like to share their thoughts on this portrayal, feel free to leave comments below and I will try to answer them all!

’Lucifer’ also wasn’t shy about having LGBT+ side characters such as the security guard in Carver Cruz’s party thing, Lucifer’s gay lover, and more. This was something that I think was done well.

’Lucifer’ has a multitude of characters who are either confirmed to be or hinted at being, of other sexualities. These include:

•Lucifer Morningstar (bisexual+)

•Mazikeen (bisexual+)

•Goddess (likely bisexual, though difficult to confine a goddess to such terminology)

There are also a bunch of side characters who are gay or other sexualities. As stated previously, I am glad that ‘Lucifer’s production team has chosen to include this in the show.

Hey guys, it’s Big Meesa again! Just wanted to add some little notes on to the end of my post to clarify some stuff. This has only been a short post again because there wasn’t a bunch to really say on this but I just wanted to discuss it. I try to make content that everyone else can enjoy viewing but also that I can enjoy making so, even if there isn’t a lot to talk about on a topic, if it interests me then I might still make a post about it!
