Mootivation: Friendship

In honor of the fated day Wheein and Hyejin met in middle school I wanted to talk a bit about friendship.

I've often felt that we don't really appreciate the role of friends in our lives. We don't really get to choose our family or our coworkers. But your friends you do. They're the people we choose to have around, simply because we like them. There's something really special and meaningful about that. The mutual agreement that I think you're pretty cool and you think I'm pretty cool so let's hang out and have a pretty cool time.

I when I was a kid my aunt and uncle were preparing to go out with some friends but they were always complaining about them and how they didn't actually enjoy their company. So I asked my uncle why he was willing to spend time with people he didn't like and he told me that when I was older I would understand. I'm twenty and I still don't.

Don't undervalue the power behind your friendship. Don't give it out to just anybody. It's a facet of our lives so integral to our wellbeing but we often undermine it's importance, sticking with someone who doesn't treat us well or a group we don't gell with.

Life it far too short to spend it with people you don't like. It's not worth the reputation, the security, the approval of your family. Not anything. It's time you can't get back again. You may think you'll never find anyone that you can truly connect with. For a long time I did. But with 7 billion people walking this earth there's sure to be a few that'll think you're pretty cool.
