Hello Midgardians!!
Today I bring to you a fanfiction. The stars of this fanfiction are Tony Stark and my OC Zsófia Jarvis
This is NOT a romance fanfiction, but a soft and sweet fanfiction of two friends reconnecting over holiday traditions andKoi memories.
I did a brief research period while writing this. I might be inaccurate at some points but I followed a few Jewish information sites for names and traditions.
Please note I used the English translation of the blessings and song for the readers purpose. But Zsófia is singing in Hebrew.
Zsófia is the Hungarian spelling of the Name Sophia. So you know how to read the name.
Hanukkah in 2019 begins on Sunday the 22nd of December and ends on Monday the 30th of December. At least that is what comes up when I asked google

Hanukkah Christmas
It had only been a few months since Tony’s childhood friend came back from Europe. The long years they spent apart made the two feel distant. Tony felt as though he forgot many of the important things about his friend. But there was nothing he could do about it but attempt to get to know her again.
He felt more distant from Zsófia the longer she was around, even jealous of how she bonded with Pepper quickly as if they knew each other more. Which she did, as Tony found out that Zsófia a was often in with Pepper, and had designed several of her dresses she wore.
Tony hoped that with Christmas around the corner that he could maybe, just maybe celebrate with her. When Zsófia was out, he had people come and decorate the place top to bottom with Christmas decorations. He was proud that he could at least try and celebrate with her while she lived with him. The large red and green decorated pine tree was set in the middle of the living room, all the lights sparkling ready to surprise his friend.
The reaction he got was not what he thought. When Zsófia walked into the mansion to see the decked out house she didn't react at all. She did pause for a moment as she looked around but resumed her phone call in what he could only assume was Hungarian. One of the few things he did about Zsófia was that her mother was Hungarian, meaning she grew up speaking the language
Weird things did start to pop up as the days went by; for one, he found several bags of chocolate coins lying about. When he tried to sneak one Zsófia caught him and hit him on the back of the head muttering "ezek gyerekeknek, idióta". He got one word out of it - she definitely called him an idiot. Even after getting FRIDAY to translate it into English, he didn’t understand what she meant by "they are for the kids." What kids? From what he knew Zsófia had none.
Zsófia was often working, having been setting up her own fashion studio in New York. So as Christmas got closer Tony snuck into her room to see a candelabra made to hold nine candles. Tony wasn't stupid and he knew exactly what it was, it made him kick himself for being so, well, stupid. How could he forget the many Christmases he and Zsófia shared celebrating both their traditions?
Lighting the candles of the menorah, playing with dreidels, sneaking chocolate coins, carolling, making potato latkes. How could he forget that Zsófia celebrated Hanukkah as a reminder of her Jewish ancestry, how Ana would have the two kids cuddled up to her and telling them how Edwin sacrificed his career in the military for their love, to protect her and save her from being sent to Auschwitz for being a Jew?
Tony sat on his friend's pink-covered bed, scolding himself for being an idiot. How come she didn’t tell him that he forgot - why didn’t she remind him?
“FRIDAY, get the decorators back in. We need to redecorate, tell them we need a Hanukkah Christmas immediately and that it needs to be done by 5PM.”
“Yes, boss.”
It took 30 minutes for the decorators to arrive with their truck filled with blue and silver decorations. Tony took the candelabra from Zsófia’s room and gave it to the head decorator.
“This needs to be the centerpiece, don’t break it. It’s important,” Tony sternly reminded the decorator. With that done Tony went to his lab to do as much research on Hanukkah as he could. He wanted to celebrate this properly with Zsófia, as it was the first holiday they had together in over 20 years and the first one they have had together since Zsófia inherited her mother's candelabra.
Between research and checking on the decorators, Tony was proud of the way the home was looking. The giant pine tree still stood in the middle of the living room but instead of red and green it was covered in silver and blue with a beautiful sparkling Jewish star on the top. Mixing both Christmas and Hanukkah together, Tony felt pleased but anxious. Would she appreciate what he has done to make her feel more at home?
Time felt like it dragged on as he awaited her arrival, having put FRIDAY on lookout duty for when she arrived.
“Boss, Miss Jarvis is pulling up at the door.”
Tony jumped at FRIDAY’s voice as he had started to space out. Stumbling off the couch he ran to the front door to greet Zsófia, reaching the door before she could open it. Seeing Tony at the door as she got out the car shocked the blonde.
“Tony… what have you done?” she questioned, walking towards him staring at the devious grin on his face. Zsófia could only imagine something bad had happened.
“Hold out your hands,” Tony ordered almost demandingly.
Hesitantly Zsófia fixed her handbag over her shoulder and held out her hands. There he dropped an old hand painted dreidel in her hand… a very familiar dreidel. She looked up at Tony, confused, and stared at the grin still on his face.
“It had been in my drawer for years, the one Ana let me decorate when we were kids. I forgot what it was and I forgot why I kept it but today I ed why,” Tony explained taking one of her hands into his, leading her into the house in its blue and silver glory.
Zsófia followed, not realising she was holding her breath. As she saw the new design gracing their home, small tears built up in the corner of her eyes as she gripped the dreidel in her hand tight. Tony led his friend around the house, showing her the mix of Christmas and Hanukkah decorations he had prepared.
“Tony… why?”
Her questioned stumped Tony, but he turned to her thinking of a reply.
“Why? Because I wondered why you weren't excited about Christmas. So I snuck into your room and saw your mother’s candelo… um, candlestick. I forgot you were… are, Jewish. So I was able to fix things, so we can celebrate Hanukkah and Christmas together. Like we did before everything went to crap.”
It took a moment for it to kick in, how Tony did the Christmas decorations because he thought she celebrated it but changed it when he ed she was Jewish. How he did all of this, for her, to make her happy, to celebrate one more holiday with her. Zsófia hugged her friend tightly, sobbing.
After a few moments of comforting, Zsófia stepped back wiping her tears clear from her eyes. It was a little awkward as they stood in silence over the whole situation. Tony cleared his throat and smiled at her.
“Hey… we have to light the first candle, it’s gone dark outside,” Tony spoke to break the silence.
“Wait, already?” Zsófia exclaimed, making Tony laugh. Taking her hand once again he led her over the menorah. Tony took the candle from the middle of the candelabra and a box of matches sitting beside it.
“Will you do the honors of lighting the first candle?” Tony ed her the candle.
Zsófia nodded, taking the candle from him, and Tony lit it. Before Zsófia went to light the first candle she recited the blessings of the menorah.
"Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us to kindle the Hanukkah light."
"Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who performed miracles for our forefathers in those days, at this time."
"Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who has granted us life, sustained us, and enabled us to reach this occasion."
Tony ed Zsófia in reciting the blessings even though all that came out were incoherent mumblings. Zsófia then lit the candle on the far right of the menorah, then placed the shamash in its place once the blessings were said. As customary she then sang the Maoz Tzur.
"Rock of Ages let our song,
Praise thy saving power;
Thou amidst the raging foes,
Wast our sheltering tower.
Furiously they assailed us,
But Thine arm availed us
And Thy word broke their sword,
When our own strength failed us.
And Thy word broke their sword,
When our own strength failed us."
As Zsófia sang, Tony watched and listened, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his chin on her shoulder. It was only the beginning, but Tony could tell that this would be the most interesting Hanukkah Christmas ever.

Things I have learnt about Hanukkah
The Menorah (the candle holder that holds 9 candles) is lit just after dark on every night of Hanukkah, each night another candle is lit. 1 on the first night, 2 on the second. Until all 8 candles are lit. You light the candles right to left except on the 8th night when you light them left to right.
On Friday you light the Menorah before dark to avoid lighting on the Shabbat that is done every week.
Gelt: this is a tradition that I think is cute and fun. You purchase chocolate coins or a gelt (Yiddish word for money) in the old days you would give money to teachers, the poor and children. Nowadays they use chocolate coins giving them away to kids.
Briefly explained in the Story, Zsófia is Jewish on her mother's side. Though she doesn't celebrate all the traditions. As her father was also Christian. She celebrated both Christian and Jewish holidays as her father would never force her mother to change.
Constructive critisim is welcome. If you are Jewish and reading this please. Tell me how I did and if there was anything I could have done better to make it more realistic.

I love the story!!
You did fine for the most part, you only missed the little details that only someone that celebrates the holiday form a religious aspect would notice and I don't think it matters since its clear that Zsófia doesn't really understand herself... I mean she led the Chanukiya in a room that has a Christmas tree, which is forbidden... one thing I do think you should change we Jews don't light the menorah on Hanukkah, the menorah was something similar to the Chanukiya that we light on Chanukah, the difference is it only hold eight candles and was used every day in the two holly houses in Jerusalem, now days no one knows where it is.
Other then that nice story, and beautiful writing!
