This is my pitch for what I believe an absolute version of Nick Fury would look like.
So in this reality, Nick Fury would have been born after World War II in the early 1980s. It wouldn't be until the start of the war on terror in 2001 when Nick Fury would the US Army, serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.
But during a mission, Nick would lose his left eye to a grenade blast during an ambush by enemy forces, causing him to get honorably discharged. But as the war on terror continued, Nick saw the ineffectiveness of the US to actually pull out of the Middle East, causing more unnecessary American casualties.
This would cause Nick and other people he served with to form the private military company known as Shield. They would quickly make massive technological advancements in the fields of military technology, developing exosuits, hover technology in weapons and vehicles, 3D-printed guns, etc.
Later, they would eventually extract Captain America from the dimension he was stranded in by the Tesseract, and Nick Fury would convince him to work for Shield. Also, Nick would meet the absolute Fantastic Four, who were captured by the Kree. He would make them stay in a space station that was owned by Shield to make technology that would hopefully stop a potential Kree invasion by Ronan the Acc.
Now in the modern day, Nick Fury believes that Shield can operate more effectively than world governments can against potential threats, and now with him recruiting mutants and superhumans, Shield has now become one of the most powerful organizations on the planet.
