So- I kinda screwed myself over with suggesting Monoma for the mascot.

Honestly there were a few hiccups during it. But enjoy!

Monoma sat on top of the roof, his legs dangling between the bars of the railing. The moon hung high in the sky, full and dim in its glow. He still looked 16, even though a year or two had ed. He had lost track, but he was dressed in his scorned gym uniform, a large hole in its side with the edges frayed and burned.

He could make out his hands, his right burnt and broken. Despite being well… A ghost now– the pain still oddly struck him. His face burned and his body felt oddly chilling and hot in some places, there was no in between, no comfort of warmth.

It happened in their first year, nothing but an accident, a quirk malfunction that landed him like this. And he had thought he’d be okay at the time..

He ed it vaguely– they were training, he and Shoto were paired up together to spar that day. As he looked down to the training grounds. And the events of the day seemed to have flooded back to him. Leaving his wounds hurting, even if they no longer should.

He had approached Shoto when it was all said and done that day, confident as usual with his taunts that he would win.

“No hard feelings if you lose okay?” Monoma said as he patted his opponent on the shoulder and oblivious to his plan Shoto nodded.

He grinned before backing up, standing on the opposite side a few metres away. As he got into position. And soon enough it got underway.

Thankfully Monoma was able to just about keep up with Shoto, having picked other quirks prior to use against him. Before soon reaching the end, as the fight dragged on he eventually used Shoto’s quirk.

But– things didn’t go as he had expected, and as he sent out a blast of ice on one side and flames on another to grab him Shoto had also used his flames. The ice exploded as a result, sending Monoma shooting backwards until he hit a wall.

It hadn’t been expected, nor was it the outcome Monoma wanted..

It was an accident, whether one could call it a malfunction or just a wrong move on either side.

He came back to reality when a twinge of pain came to his face, he was dead but the pain lingered… Sighing as he looked around, he hated being unseen. Just someone they didn’t think of anymore.

Picking himself up from where he sat, lifting himself to float in the air when he saw students leaving the building. Noticing kids from class A. Why did they have to live? It wasn’t fair, they faced much worse than he did. Yet he was the one in this position.

Even if he didn’t want to it it; he envied it, it got so lonely for him. As he lowered to the ground to hear what his old classmates were talking about.

“Hey Kendo– what are you doing later? Everyone’s planning a movie night tonight. Are you going to us?” Setsuna asked, it was always a routine they had. Every week or so they’d all unwind, sit down in the common area with a bunch of popcorn and other snacks and pick a movie.

Kendo shook her head, dismayed it seemed as she frowned. Looking at her classmate and friend. “I can’t, I’m– going to visit Monoma. I’m sure he gets lonely with not many people visiting him.”

Ever since he died she still spoke as if he was around. Maybe it was a way for her to grieve? Even if it happened near the end of their first year. Though this was the first time Monoma was hearing her mention his grave, he nearly forgot—

"I understand and I'm sure the others will too, y'know.. You slapped him around the most yet you're also the one who visits his grave." Setuna pointed out, the realisation never hit her. As she smiled softly.

"Weird right?... Guess I gotta make sure he behaves in the afterlife." Kendo joked, nudging her classmate.

Monoma couldn't help but laugh, as a cool breeze went by the two girls.

"Jeez it's cold- don't keep him company all day." Setuna shivered before they parted ways.

He never knew— never knew that Kendo visited his grave, and he wasn't there. He was on the school grounds, sad for himself he never thought about his classmates.

He decided to follow her, floating by her side like they used to do.

It was quite a long walk, though they finally came to the cemetery. And a feeling of dread came over Monoma.

Following after her until they came to his grave, stopping in his tracks. Or tried to— he still wasn't entirely used to floating.

Standing by the grave with his name? Shoto…

I still have to do some other writing stuff...

Happy spooky season! ^w^
