Calcifex -[No-Pain, No-Gain]- Villian for hire

Tbh, I really only gave this dude a code name outta the need to refer to him by something other than his Quirk. I made this guy as a Quirk concept more than anything else around the time of on my 1-A wiki, so a name was challenging tbh. I really wanted him to come across as still mysterious so a code name, not a real name.

I wanted a villain, not a big bad but a constant smaller threat, that I could have my Class 1-A member face. A threat but not a world threat like AFO, but he’d still need to provide a consistent threat, and thus, “No-Pain, No-Gain”, a villain that could adapt to fight any hero, within reason.

Anyway, here’s the headshot image since it ended up being cut off and too small to see all of it in the template:

Art process:

So I started making a pose and body sketch, to make sure proportions and everything where how I wanted them.

Then I began on the outfit and scars, all the things to make a character look cool with the pose

But then I realized his head was too small, he didn’t look how he did in my mind, and thus I redid the whole sketch

Then I started redeg to make him look how he felt

Once he was sufficiently scared and angry, I could move onto the line work, giving him similar hatch lines that Deku’s scars have since I figured “screw it” I’m trying to make characters in the world, might as well give them a blend of my art style and official, if only partially.

Then figure out base colors

Then water color paint those colors with darker and darker shades to get to a less flat design

Then onto the sketch for the headshot image (which I forgot the save an image of) and then onto a detailed sketch giving all the details I’d decided on from the base image over to here

Then as before onto the lines

Then again with the base colors, which I already had found and picked out which made the process a bit easier as I just had to regrab them

Then make the image feel more depthy once again
