So my last story got a lot of love and was featured, which really surprised me. Since it’s Tokoyami’s special day I wrote a short story for him. Happy Birthday, Tokoyami!

It wasn’t a secret that Tokoyami enjoyed his own company more than others. His ears ached for blissful silence after a tedious day. The noise of Bakugo bickering and Ashido gossiping made his head throb with pain. So he slipped away from the madness happening in the main hall and made his way to the serenity of his room. As he pushed the rusted, wooden door open, a sharp, metallic gust of air climbed up his nostrils and filled him with a sense of security. The dark, dreary room and the crisp texture of the carpeting only augmented relaxed emotions as tranquility succeeded his previous distressed composure. He let a long sigh of relief and proceeded to his closet. He gradually took off his rough, pungent clothing and replaced it with a more comfortable attire. Tokoyami jumped onto his silk-smooth bed sheets and fell back until all he could see was the moulding, black ceiling above him. His head rested on top of his supple, pliant pillow. The weight on his shoulders began to mitigate as he sank to the bed. He slowly shut his drowsy eyes and eventually, he began to drift off into slumber.

“Hey...”

The sharp noise cut through the silence and awoke Tokoyami. A look of annoyance superseded his relaxed face. He rolled his eyes and let out a heavy breath of air before proceeding to answer the voice. “What is it, Dark Shadow?” Tokoyami said sharply. “I’m bored. Let’s do something fun like everyone else, it’s only 8:00 pm!” Tokoyami rolled his eyes again. ”No. I’m exhausted.” Tokoyami said in a stern voice. ”But I didn’t even get a chance to come out, so why can’t I now. Plus look at how dark it is.”

Tokoyami lifted his head up slightly to peer through the small window beside him. There wasn’t any stars out tonight. He sat up and observed the outside. There was a full moon, illuminated the ragged roads and the serrated pathway to our main entrance. In the courtyard, was Midoriya. There was green electricity encircling around him as he kicked the air with such ferocity that the leaves from the tree beside him fell off their branches. The boy was shirtless and moonlight made his sweat glisten like bright stars. Dark Shadow climbed over Tokoyami’s shoulders and watched Midoriya train with him.

“See, why can’t we do what he’s doing. You know you need the training as well.” Tokoyami let out a big sigh, ”I suppose you’re right.” From there, Tokoyami whipped the silk covers off himself and got up. “A little training wouldn’t hurt, right?” Tokoyami said to himself.

After a tiresome time of walking, Tokoyami finally reached his destination. It was a large cave just a few miles west from the dorms, away from the city and in a more secluded area, where his noise wouldn’t be able to be heard. The pungent stench put him off for a second, but he recomposed himself, ing he is here for a reason. The place was dark, as if any light that were to enter would immediately be engulfed in the ivory walls. The eerily silence made his heart beat louder, the hairs on his back started to stand and a cold sweat formed above his eyebrow. He felt a sinister presence in the shadows, but he shook it off and proceeded to undergo his training. “Alright, Dark Shadow, let’s begin.” Tokoyami said in a gentle, yet commanding tone. Dark Shadow whipped out and began enlarging due to all the darkness surrounding him. The bigger he grew, the more Tokoyami began to regret his decision. Dark Shadow let out a cacophonous roar and started bashing his gargantuan arms into the rocky walls, causing rocks to shower down on the two. All the commotion startled a small creature, who from the opening, attempted to escape from the chaos.

“Squeak, squeak.”

The small mouse wasn’t fast enough though. With one fatal swoop, Dark Shadow obliterated it into small molecules of flesh and bones. The blood exploded from the impact spraying the crimson, sticky liquid in every vicinity. Tokoyami watched in horror as Dark Shadow repeated slammed his now bloody hands into the same place the mouse was in. There was nothing left of the creature other than the small pool of blood it left. Dark Shadow scoffed at the remains, “I want more than that. I haven’t had enough fun yet!” Dark Shadow said with a grin. “NO, that’s enough. Stop it Dark Shadow. You’ve killed an innocent creature!!!” Screamed Tokoyami, trying to command ‘his’ Dark Shadow to stop. But with all the guilt from the death of the mouse filling Tokoyami’s brain, Dark Shadow only grew stronger and more enraged. The regret of bringing Dark Shadow here began to engulf his heart with the same darkness coming from Dark Shadow. His brain began to become shrouded with a cloud of iniquity, pushing his emotions to the far back ends of his skull, leaving his hidden malicious intents to surface to the top and reshape his morals and visions he followed. He could feel the sinister claws that he had repressed away into the depths of his soul, gripping its long, thin fingers around his heart. He clenched his chest and tried to break away from the pain. Trying with all his might, he pushed back the covert thoughts and resurfaced all his memories of positivity to fight back the darkness he held within.

“Stop it, Dark Shadow! You’re hurting me!” Begged Tokoyami, but his words couldn’t reach the misty being. All Dark Shadow could do was smash his arms into the cave walls until he was tired, but he wasn’t getting anymore worn-out. He could feel the night’s darkness feeding him, filling him with more and more power. He was bursting with energy, and wanted to use it. Tokoyami clenched his teeth as he felt his limbs pulling away from each other. His muscles began to stretch past their limits. A tear formed in the corner of his eye and began rolling its way down his face. “Please... somebody help. Anybody?”

“Hey! This is private property!”

The voice was a strong, raspy one, but it sounded like bliss to Tokoyami. His prayer was heard, and he had been blessed by the heavens with an angel. But this moment of glee was interrupted by the clamorous roar of Dark Shadow, who twisted his head around to see his victim. Without warning, Dark Shadow lunges at the man. Tokoyami’s previous state of happiness turned to a state of fear as he watched Dark Shadow thrust towards the figure. What was he thinking? Of course he wouldn’t be able to save him, Dark Shadow would obliterate him in a second. Unless he has light. “LIGHT! MAKE SOME LIGHT OR HE’LL KILL YOU!” Tokoyami shouted at the top of his lungs. The man was frozen in fear, his legs glued to the floor and his eyes fixated at the eminent threat rushing towards him. But Tokoyami’s words got through to him as he snapped out of his state and stuck his hand in his pocket. He brought out his lighter and fiddled with the switch to get it on. Flick. Flick. Flick. Flic-. He was too slow.

Dark Shadow swung his arm at the man and collided with him with such velocity that his bones cracked on impact, creating a cacophony of shattering noises. The arm held onto him as Dark Shadow propelled his feeble body into the cave walls. A pool of blood built around his now shattered body. The man was surely dead. Tokoyami’s heart filled with guilt as he watched in agony realising what ‘he’ had done. But miraculously an arm twitched and pushed the being upright. Dark Shadow, who had already moved on from the chaos, saw this in the corner of his eye. In an instant, he made his way back to the body and violently began bashing his arms onto the man. With every strike across the carcass, his insides began splattering across the walls and spat into the air. The broken bones in his body started to stick out. The loud thumping against the frail body only got louder. The surviving heart was still beating, but it too slowly became lifeless as each beat slowed down and became quieter... until he was dead.

The scene was too horrific for Tokoyami to watch, shutting his eyes closed and just wishing for the best. The sharp pain in his chest before reappeared. The grip around his heart strengthened again, but this time more. He could feel his heart soaking up the darkness he tried so hard to subjugate it. But the more he resisted, the more it hurt. He began to feel light-weighted as his vision became blurred. The sharp pain was a now agonising, throbbing ache that was too much for Tokoyami to handle. So he let go. His vision was now clouded and he could only see through a small opening in the dark mist. He felt his body sink in within Dark Shadow as his soul darkened. Slowly, he began losing his conscience. With one last breath, he gentle whispered a word before he was engulfed into the darkness.

“Help...”
