Pixiu is a combination of land and sea that is regarded as auspicious for wealth due to its voracious appetite for gold, silver, and jewels. In Chinese tradition, Pixiu are considered auspicious creatures possessed with mystical powers capable of attracting wealth from all directions. According to the Chinese zodiac, Pixiu can especially be helpful to those struggling through hard times.

A Pixiu's antlers determine the type of Pixiu it is. The one with two horns is the female and is called Bìxié, and the one with one horn is the male and is called Tiānlù.

Bìxié:

The female of the species protects against evil. Bìxié is also believed to be able to help people who suffer from ill Feng Shui due to offending Tai Sui (60 star deities responsible for humans' fortune).

Tiānlù:

The male of the species is responsible for wealth. He is said to seek out gold and other forms of wealth throughout the world. Upon returning to his master's home, it is said that the Bìxié guards the riches. Displaying Tiānlù at home or in the office is believed to prevent wealth from flowing away.
