Boiuna - Brazilian mythology includes large snakes of dark colors called boiuna. Their eyes glow orange and they’re capable of speech. The serpents are said to live deep in the freshwaters of Brazilian lakes, ponds, and rivers via holes they dig. They don’t harm fishes, but instead destroy ships by using magnetic powers and can kill people by stealing their shadows. They’re known to shape-shift as a human, sailboat, steamboat, or ghost ship. Legends say it can take people to underwater kingdoms and impregnate people with a uterus by simply staring at one of the snakes. The offspring is a snake that are dumped into the water where they turn into a boiuna.

Fenrir - Norse mythology has several giant characters with Fenrir being one of them. He is described as a talking wolf that will be large enough to eat the sun until he had his jaws ripped apart and his throat stabbed by Vidar after swallowing Odin. Fenrir is the son of Loki. The Norse deities originally took care of Fenrir until he started to grow.

Hōnengyo - Japan has a fish or amphibian-like yokai known as hōnengyo which is described as being large and living in freshwater. Despite looking like monstrous dinosaurs, they’re a symbol of good omens or fortunes to come.

Khodumodumo - Southern Africa is home to the Sotho people who tell tales about a shapeless entity with multiple sharp tongues. It’s large enough to swallow entire human populations along with animals. A mother’s son eventually cuts the creature open which lets everyone free.

Oni - Japanese demons are known as oni. The ones who were originally human are just called oni and are often portrayed as being larger than people. They’re muscular, have tusks, horns, sometimes more than two eyes, wears a loincloth, holds a spiked club, and usually have either red, blue, or other skin colors. Disease, death, and destruction comes when an oni is around.

Thunderbird - Native American mythology states that the thunderbird is a large creature that creates thunder with each wing flap and lighting every time they open their eyes. Humans are protected from evil spirits, but some legends say people will be punished by the bird if they act immoral. Algonquian mythology says the bird control the upper world while an underwater panther or Great Horned Serpent controls the underworld and is considered an enemy.

Wendigo - Native American folklore states that the wendigo is a skeletal figure with ash gray skin, chewed off lips, sunken eyes, and grows every time they eat someone. They’re associated with winter, famine, and cannibalism. People who eat their own kind will turn into a wendigo.

Yule Cat - Iceland has several Christmas characters with the Yule Cat being one of them. This creature looks like a giant house cat and it eats children that didn’t receive new clothes as a gift. The ogress known as Grýla, who also eats children, is sometimes depicted as being the cat’s owner.
