Well let's look at this as the gaelic version of a centaur. Just 10x more creeper and deadly. Not nice at all and it's not looking to teach you how to be a great hero either. More like a dead body 6 feet under ground.
This creature originated from Scotland northan Isles, specifically Orkney islands. The name Nuckelavve can be traced back to the word knoggelvi(icelandic)meaning "the devil of the sea". Giving it nordic origins. It lived in the sea but it would make frequent trips on land to destroy crops, cattle, spread disease, bring epidemics, droughts and just cause havoc. It's whole purpose was literally to just ruin everything that these islanders needed to survive. The burning smell of seaweed would really set this creature off and this would instantly put him in a rage, making him destroy more.

The Nuckelavve was the most horrifying monster in that specfic area of Scotland and not just for it's appearance which was quite terrifying alone. It's said to take a different form in the sea but there aren't any written s of it's description in it's sea form but we do have descriptions on how it looked on land.
The Nuckelavve had no skin at all. The veins were transparent(some say they were yellow) and it's blood was black. Body was always continuously pulsating. The torso of a man was fused to the back of a horse. It was said to have one eye, either on the horse or the humanoid part of it. The eye was flaming red. It's arms were so long and lanky that it could reach the ground. The mouth and eyes protruded like a pig's. The breath of the Nuckelavve was poisonous that it also used to destroy crops with. There's s of the horse having two humanoid heads on it somewhere.
The only way to escape from the Nuckelavve is to cross a body or go into freshwater. This creature naturally resides in the sea so it doesn't match well with fresh water. Which is why it leaves to go back to where it came from when it rains. It was said the only person who could really tame the Nuckelavve was the Mither o' the Sea.
The inhabitants of the northern isles of Scotland were so scared of this creature that they would not say it's name without following up with a quick prayer afterwards.
There is nothing remotely positive about the Nuckelavve.
