Rant on the live action remake: Being a puritan isn't the same as being a killjoy

This isn't meant for anyone on amino, I haven't seen people say this here. But this is something I have seen so much in youtube comments and I don't get it?

So many people are saying that the old fans who are against the LA movie are killjoys that are gatekeeping the fandom from new fans. And that old fans have been claiming fans of the LA movie aren't real fans, which I haven't seen anyone say.

It feels like old fans aren't allowed to say anything against the LA without being called a killjoy who hates new fans and thinks new people are "fake"

I think being a puritan is absolutely fine and understandable as long as you aren't judging others for enjoying what you don't like or claiming that what someone likes makes them more or less of a fan for liking something. I myself am a self proclaimed puritan, I've looked at the new figures and decided that I won't buy anything from the new movie unless I love the remake after watching it when it comes out. Because aparently I'm a total prude who won't let a LA figure sully my collection of og figures lmao

But as long as you don't go around calling others fake fans and gatekeeping, is being a puritan actually bad?? It feels like that meme of liking pancakes means you hate waffles, disliking the LA doesn't mean disliking fans of it
