I do not agree with the outside one.

I think rats are fine to go outside if:

Trained to come when they are called

You know your rats

Depends on thr place

Rats can also be in pairs you know

I just wanted to say that since I am from europe we here have other regulations and laws and thats what is stated in the animal laws of my country. Sorry if I offended you but I do still think that its more natural to keep rats in higher numbers than two as in the wild they would also live in large groups.

I dont think that rats in larger groups are more prone to fights as they can more easily avoid eachother and snuggle and be groomed by another rat rather than the one they just quarrled with.

Normally in rat pairs there is one alpha and one lower ranked rat. In greater numbers the responsibility is distributed so it would lead to a more balanced hierarchy.

Rats in pairs do get more bonded to eachother, thats true but the reason for that is because they dont have another rat to get bonded to.

That is true. I mean keep your rats in large groups, I have a group of 6 as well as a pair of 2.

When I had a group of three they were less happy then being in a group of two (one died due to cancer) because the other one (Skitt) was more of a third wheel and they would get into fights sometimes because of that (that's why Grey has a cut in his ear) so I personally think with rats, it would be best to stick to even numbers but that's just based off of experience

Its preferred to have at least one water bottle for each rat. Some people also like to have one bowl per rat since sometimes they can fight over food.

Taking rats outside is different for everyone. Some people believe it's okay to bring them outside for little bits of time, and others believe they should NEVER be outside. I dont think it's a really good "basic question" to have on here with only one answer since other people believe different things :)

Oh I never heard about having 1 water bottle per rat. I only was told repeatedly from many sources at the start of my ratparenthood that 1-1/2 hides per rat would be necessary.

I use 3-4 water bottles for my 8 girls and I just never heard of it. :)

thanks for informing.

Concerning the outside bit: I just think that you shouldnt bring them outside unless you really 100% know what you are doing so I just thought as a basic rule for new rat parents: rather don't.

It's really good to have at least one hide per rat! So that was okay ^^ but yeah, it's prefered to have at least 1 bottle per rat, but if you dont, a couple will do fine :) I have 5 for my 7 girls and they do fine ^^
