Hey there!
So if you're looking into a betta, I recommend 5 gallons as the minimum, though 10 gallons would be absolutely great! Do NOT put multiple bettas together! It will end up as a fighting frenzy!
Your tank will need a heater, heating your betta's water to 80-82 degrees.
Please get the appropriate sized filter, sponge filter is your best bet when it comes to bettas. You don't want the flow of the filter to be too strong! It will push your betta around and might actually hurt them!
Do not use sharp decor/plants! Your best bet is either silk fake plants or live plants. You could add some wood to give the water tannins too!
Make sure to cycle your tank! Look up the nitrogen cycle, it will help a lot!
Make sure to get water conditioner so your tap water will be safe for the betta. Do NOT buy betta safe water!!! It's a waste of money! (I recommend Seachem Prime water conditioner!!)
Do regular water changes, don't go more than 2-3 weeks without a water change.
I feed my betta frozen food, not pellets because pellets would make them bloat and away. (My betta LOVES brine shrimp and bloodworms, though bloodworms are for a treat like 1-2 times a week!)
If I think of anything else, I'll let you know!!
Get at least a 5gallon tank.
Learn how to cycle it and explain it to your family, they'll notice that you are researching to care for your pet.
Explain the benefits of having a fish (watching a fish swimming is relaxing).
Explain how are you planning to take care of the fish based on your lifestyle and the previous research
Alright! I generally appreciate it.
