Seeds VS Pellets

Today I'm gonna talk about bird seeds and pellets. I'm sure there are many birds owners out there feeding their feathery buddies seeds or pellets and wondering which one is better, so I'd like to share my opinion on both of these and figure out together which one is a better option for your birds. The short answer would be that none of these can be seen as "better" over the other one. They both have their benefits and personally, I think you should feed your birds both seeds and pellets, but none of those in excess.

Birds in captivity, don't get as many nutrients as they do when living free. Seeds and pellets are deficient in calcium and vitamins. An all-seed/ all-pellet diet simply cannot provide them with everything they need in their diet. Bear in mind as well that the quality of seed put out in the pet bird market is usually very low. Feeding an all-seed/all-pellet diet is not only unhealthy, the quality of a bird's life on an all-seed/all-pellet diet is not good.

Seeds and pellets are both okay to feed your birds with since even in nature, seeds and the stuff the bird pellets contains would be an important part of any bird's diet, but only feeding your birds with this kind of stuff is not healthy for your birds and will affect them in different ways. All birds need some fruits/veggies added to their daily menu for them to live a healthy life.

But wait, one of them must be better, right?

Both of those are okay birds food indeed, but if you really want to know, I'd say pellets are better.

Birds in captivity often do not get the variety of foods that they would in the wild and can't get all of the nutrients that they need from seeds or pellets alone. While pellets usually provide more balanced nutrition than seeds do, a pet bird's diet should be supplemented with plenty of fruits and vegetables to make sure that they are consuming all of the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that they require. The wider the variety of both raw and cooked food, the better.

What do you feed your birds with, Rora?

Personally, I feed my birds seeds and many veggies/fruits. Unfortunately, quality bird pellets are suspiciously hard to find in my country, so I chose to feed them quality bird seeds and many veggies daily than risk feeding them some suspicious low quality pellets. They have a pretty variate menu and I'm doing everything I can to keep them happy and healthy, but I keep looking around for high quality bird pellets tho. Hopefully, I'll get them to eat pellets instead of seeds at some point.
