a small lesson in editing light:
in every editing program i’ve ever seen there’s a slider called “contrast”. contrast is the amount of difference in brightness between the brightest parts and darkest parts of an image. if you slide the slider to the right (or left if your program / app is extremely weird), the contrast in your image will increase, meaning the difference between highlights and shadow will be raised. if you slide it to the left, the difference will be lowered and your photo will look all washed out like this one.
typically you’d raise the contrast 95%of the time you need to change it, but lowering it can be fun too to get a different look

Tbh since my phone camera isnt very good, I use contrast a lot to sharpen the focus. Not so much that the contrast is overwhelming, of course, but it definitely helps throw the image into relief and make shadows less vague.
yea that’s always a tricky thing with phone cameras; you don’t get enough data to edit properly so changing anything in post is really finicky
