In My Arms

wrapped in a thin blanket in a basket

you, a small baby crying and wailing

for someone to find you

near the edge of the riverbank

and i, a staggering, wounded soldier

a survivor of the war

drink the water of the bank

for my weary body

and to see an innocent being like you

tiny and delicate

outside of a warm home with your family

and instead inside a basket on a cold night alone

embracing your little body

and slowly drifted off to sleep

from today onwards, i'll be your father
