Can I beat pokemon-white 2 with only flying type pokemon ( part-1 )

Introduction

Greetings readers , Chansey guy here . This is a collab with a friend of mine who goes by the name Mr, Bisharp . We decided to start a series where we will play two counter part games in gen 5 , as it is one of our favorite generations of pokemon and black2/white2 are our favorite games . This is a mono-flying challenge run and the rules are as follows

Rules

1) I am only supposed to use flying type pokemon in battle [ dual types alongside flying are allowed ].

2) The challenge run only begins once I have cought my first possible flying type encounter , events that take place before that are'nt necessarily relevant to the run

3) I am not allowed to use any items in between a battle [ held items are allowed though ]

4) The levels of every pokemon in my party must never go past 5 levels of the gym leader's ace , no matter how many pokemon are presant in my party .

5) I am not supposed to capture more than one pokemon of a specie

6) No legandaries

These are the rules I will abide by in this challenge run . Now with that being said , lets get into the progression .

Progression

The game starts of with this magnificant proffessor welcoming us to the utopian world of pokemon . And explains us about the tranquility of the creatures that inhabit it along side the humans , and their interactions with the human to create a positive relationship as trainers and pokemon . I am aware that it is not relevant to my challenge run , but regardless , I felt like sharing it , and so I did .

Anyways , after this breef welcome , I had to enter my name and the name of my rival .

I name myself chansey , simply because my complete name would exceed the maximum letter capacity .

And i named my rival as bisharp , because "Mr,Bisharp" is the one I am collaborating with , and sadly even his complete name exceeds the word limit . And I do consider Mr.Bisharp as my rival because we are doing our runs together , so why not .

After a few trivial events like me reaching the pokemon world and meeting up with my rival , I had to go upto Bianca , who is the proffessor's assistant in this game to claim my first pokemon [ who I shall only use until I find my first flying type , and only then ditch ]. I claim tepig because , this will trigger the rival to choose oshowat , and hence the rival would not have any real inate type disadvantage against the flying type as oshowat and all the of its evolutionary line are not weak to flying type , unlike Snivy's whole evolution like being weak to flying type due to their grass type , and in case of tepig , its evolutions pignite and emboar are weak to flying by virtue of their fighting type . I did this to increase the difficulty of the challenge run .

Trivial events

After completing the trail , I finally recieve a few pokeballs , and then I immediately scurry past route 1 and try reaching route 2 as fast as possible , as thats where I find my first pokemon , and my true starter as per the challenge run .

After beating a few trainers and taking away their money , I immediately hop into the grass to find my first flying type pokemon .

And that encounter is a pidove . It will be my only pokemon for the first two gyms as there are no other flying types availible until the castelia sewers , and so with a grin in my face , I use an ember at it and throw a pokeball at it , getting it cought in the process .

Now this marks the beginning of my challenge run

Yunuz the pidove is my first pokemon and will be the only usable pokemon until gym 3 .Since he is our only pokemon , I would have to raise it wisely , lets take a quicke overview of his

characteristics at the time of being cought .

Pidove overwiew [ before any grinding ]

Now Yunuz is a male Pidove met at route-2 . Its got the Docile nature , which basically has no sort of influence over Yunuz's stat growth what so ever , it is considered a neutral nature as it does increases and reduces nothing . Its ability is Super-Luck , and I must say that I am "super-lucky" to have gotten it . This ability may not be the most consistent , however it may surely help me in cheesing out the win from sticky situations via a critical hit . It especially makes it better as Pidove learns the move air-cutter at a relatively early level of 15 . Considering the fact that air cutter has a higher-chance of being a critical hit , and this chance being furthur boosted by Pidove's Super-Luck ability , we can conclude that these two characters woud make for a truly nasty pairing , and would furthur enhance the damage output from pidove's low special attack , which is a great thing . Its only move for now is gust , which is a standard 40 base power special STAB attack . At the early parts of the game , it sure is fine , but i don't really see myself keeping the move for too long . Now coming to its stats , I cannot really say much besides the fact that they follow the same pattern as its "base stats " , So lets talk about that first .

As you can see  pidove's base stat total is 264 , which for a first stage pokemon is not bad at all . The way the stats are spread is also feasible enough at this stage of the game , nice attack stat , decent hp and defense , average speed , low special attack and lower special defense . Among all , I feel that the low special attack hurts the most , however I could make it work for now , especially with the help of super-luck air cutter combo [ talked about above ] making that special attack look not so bad with the damage output .

Since all this time , I have been talking about a level 2 bird  I knew I had to grind up to help cope up with rest of the trainers , and so I went to the route 1 grass and started grinding against patrats and purlions until my pidove reached level 8 .

After toughening up the little guy a bit , It was finally ready to take on the trainers near by and hold its own against any trainer fight at this stage of the game . During grinding I did gain two moves , In growl and leer at level 5 and level 8 respectively . Growl could be helpfull situationally , but leer will be straight up useless until I gain my next move [ quick attack ].

Now back to the story line

After grinding , I enter the flocessy ranch and go ahead to meet up with my rival so that I can give him the extra map that I had gotten . However , he had different plans for me , as he starts being a jerk and challenges me to a battle without my will .

Anyways , We start the battle , where he has only one pokemon , which is a level 8 oshowatt and I must defeat that oshowatt with my level 8 pidove . Sure seems like a fair match up to me

He kept using tackle all throughout the battle , and I did the same with gust . He managed to land 4 tackles before he fainted to my fifth gust  . Though , my pidove was pushed down to 1 hp due to all of this , and managed to survive .

After our battle , a couple aproaches us , appluading us for our battle prowess [ though we were not that different from the route 2 trainers ] and requisted us to bring back their herdier , which had wandered into the forest for no reason .

With that beig said . Due to their carelessness , me and Bisharp went into the forest in search of their herdier [ tactfully evading all those heartless beings who did'nt bother with the abduction of the owner's pet ] and found it at the very end of the forest .

Along with the missing herdier , there was also a person who said he worked for the all new and improved team plasma , and started rambling about their goals and ideologies for quite a bit [ all which I shamelessly skipped past without a second thought ]. And looking at my ignorance , he flung the TM21 at my face and left the place . TM21 consists of the move frustraion [ which is a move whose power is at the peak when the s happiness points are at least , the meximum power of the move is an astounding 102 ].

After this , I the owner came over and took his dog back , his wife healed my pokemon up , and we were all set to return . On the way back , Alder took me into his school of two students who together wanted to train me up and let me know of type match ups [ a thing i already know off , but i don't mind alder's concern so i went anyway ].

The first protoge had a Pansage , which was level 9 , and I had a pidove of level 13 [ grinded in flocessy ranch ]. I make quick work of that pansage with two Gust attacks .

The second protoge had used a level 9 pampour against my level 13 pidove . This time , I had used my newly learned quick attack to 2 hit KO the pampour [ whereas the pampour used its one turn to leer me , just like the pansage ].

After that , Alder suggests me to go and challenge the newly opened normal type gym in Aspertia city [ my home town ]. And so I start back tracking my way home , and again meet up with Alder [ who does'nt hesitate to jump of a cliff just to give me a bunch of Oran Berries to keep my pidove healthy [ and not using healing items asper the rules ].

After that I reach Aspertia city and get ready to take on the Pokemon Gym . So Let me presant to you my Game plan , for taking down the gym leader Cheren .

Game plan

Now before we get into my plan , lets take a quick look at Cheren's team .

So basically Cheren leads off with a Patrat which is level 11 , with the ablity Keen eye [ prevents reduction of accuracy ] and with moves Work up , Bite , Tackle and detect . The way this pokemon can threaten us is by setting up with Work-up [ raises its attack and special attack stats by one stage or a factor of 1.5 ] and hitting hard with Bite or Tackle . The way i planned in taking this patrat down is by hitting it with my Pidove's newly learned quick attack to bring it down to the range where Cheren heals it up with a potion , abusing the free turn for a leer , and finishing it off with two quick attacks .

His next pokemon is his ace . A level 13 Lillipup , with the ability Vital spirit [ prevents the from being inflicted with sleep ]. Its moves are Work up , Bite , Tackle and Helping hand [ which is useless ]. This pokemon also threatens us similarly as his Patrat , by setting up with work up and threatening with hard hitting tackles . My plan to get around this is to basically spam quick attack , as I am confident that i can take the lilipup down within 3 to 4 quick attacks , and also hope to to critical hit . And keep my Pidove healthy at clutch times , I equiped it with an Oran berry [ as healing items cannot be used between a battle as per the rules ] and it may also enable my pidove to live an extra hit .

With that being said , lets see how the actual gym battle played out .

Demolition of Gym trainers .

This guy used a patrat level 9 against my pidove and I made quick work of it just by spamming quick attack and took it down in 3 hits . Though it did manage to hit me with a tackle , and wasted a turn with work up .

This little miss had a level 9 herdier against me , which I quickly disposed by using quick attacks . The lillipup went down in 3 quick attacks , however it did do a little more damage to me with tackle .

Gym leader Cheren

Turn-1

So Cheren decides to lead off with Patrat [ just as I told in my game plan ] . I decide to use leer [ something that I had not planned for at the beginning but did it anyway ] to lower its defense , so that it would get into the range of fainting to two quick attacks . I found that out , when I noticed the insane damage my quick attacks used to do to lower leveled patrats [ that belonged to the gym trainers ] and so estimated that the Patrat would fall into this range after a leer .

The patrat decides to use a work up in the first turn , because thats a default command . By doing this , the patrat has raised its attack and special attack by a stage , and so I had to make quick work of it .

Turn-2

Then I precede to use a quick attack which cleaves out half of the patrat's health bar [ thanks to my estimations ] . However the Cheren seemed to have other plans in mind as he got greedy and  commanded his patrat to use another Work-up . However its too late to abuse the boosts as he is already in the range of another quick attack .

Turn-3 [ big misclick ]

So yeah , this was when i commited a totally unecessary misclick [ because I was not paying attention to what button i pressed ] because instead of finishing off the patrat with a final quick attack , I still into using an additional and totally unnecessary leer , exposing myself wide open to a hard hit which stung . The patrat abused this misclick and preceded to hit me with a +1 STAB tackle , which almost brough me down to my oran berry . This was a when I really decided to focus in what I was doing .

Turn-4

So in turn-3 , I wanted no funny bussiness as Cheren had a +2 attack level 11 patrat with STAB 50 base power tackle . Fortunately , it was in the range of my next quick attack , and so with a grin in my face , I precede to knock out that patrat with my priority quick attack [ the priority did not matter as I was faster anyway , but i just wanted to say that to give you all a wider view of the situation ]. Oh wait , we also touch level 15 , which means...................

We just a got a new move in Air cutter . It is a base 55 power flying type STAB move which has a higher then usual critical hit rate . Fortunately , this critical hit rate is furthur boosted by my ability Super-Luck , and so I would frequently land Critical hits with my Air-cutters , which would certainly do big damage despite pidove's meagre special attack stat . So I delete Gust in place of Air-cutter and carry on with the battle .

Turn-5

So after the Patrat is down  Cheren gets serious and brings out his ace , which is a level 13 lillipup . So this is when , I again deviated from my game plan and fell pray to my estimations [ which turned out to be the right way ]. I decided to do the same thing to the Lillipup and so I used leer at it this turn to reduce its defense , and Lillipup uses work up as its move it raise its attack and special attack . I leered this time as well , because I did notice that the gym trainers Lillipup also took really similar damage as the former's patrat [ just a bit lower damage because of lillipup's slightly better bulk ] . Though it all seemed to be at the same range , and I figured that I would push it down to the 2 hit KO range with a leer [ just like patrat ] and so thats what I did . I was also pretty confident that I would live a tackle from the +1 health [ barely] and get back to prestine condition with my oran berry .

Turn-6

So as I said , I used a quick attack this turn and barely managed to do half the Lillpup's health bar , and my estimations did not let me down this time . However , Cheren just as usual tries to grab another Work-up with his Lillipup to attain +2 attack and +2 special attack . This still seems like its too late to abuse the boost as he is clearly within the range of my next quick attack and I am totally in a comfortable spot [ unless I commit another misclick ].

Turn-7

This time , I was totally in my senses , and did not want to risk a misclick at any cost [ like how i did in turn 3 ] , and precede to wipe the hp bar  of the opposing Lillipup empty  with my next quick attack . And the attack was on point at knocking out the Lillipup .

With this , the battle ends , and I secure the Victory .

Post battle events

Firstly , I precede to take away his money , because why not , I deserve it.

Secondly I claim my basic badge . This badge is going to be the first out of seven other badges that I will have to collect throughout my journey .

Thirdly , and most importantly , I get TM83 which consists of the move Work up . This is a HUGE reward this early in the game . It is a fairly feasible set up move that raises the s attack and special attack stats by 1 stage [ or a factor of 1.5 ] . Getting access to a set up move such as this , so early on in the game is just jaw dropping . It breaks the game wide open and is highly abusable to sweep the opponents with ease . For instance , I could use it on Pidove  to boost my attack about two or three times , and precede to immidiatly sweep the opponent by barraging them with boosted STAB normal and flying moves [ my air cutter especially with a high crit rate ] , and even faster pokemon would not be able to reliably halt my sweeps because pidove has a priority move in quick attack . And hence  , as I demonstrated , this move is going to help me weasel my way through tough spots if I use it right by nabbing suffice boosts on an unthreatening foe .

Trust me people , this may be the most absurd TM gift in the whole game due to all the benefits it provides , It makes the game far more easier .

Yeah , with that being said , I immediately teach the move to Yunuz he pidove , in place of Leer . The damage output changes are technically the same with both leer and work up , the only difference is that Work-ups benefit is better and more consistent as the damage output changes remain the same even after the opponent looses the pokemon , as I am rasing "my stats" and these changes cannot be undone unless I switch out "my pokemon" or if "my pokemon is knocked out". Whereas Leer's damage output changes are undone when the opponent faints , as in this case , the stats changes are done to the "opponent" and hence would be undone when the"opponent's pokemon" either faints or switches out , which is mostly out of our control . This is also why I and many other people believe that raising ones own stats is vastly better then lowering the opponent's stats . [ for the most part as there are miscellanious scenario's where it is vise-versa , though it may not be relevant to the playthrough ].

Conclusion

Yeah , so thank you all for sticking with me for so long and reading the post throughout . I so also want to apologize if the screen shots of the battle interactions were insufficient or unclear , as I find it a bit hard to have these shots taken on point , and will try to get better .
