My Struggle With The Penny

Production of the penny is being discontinued, but that is not enough for me as I will still have to deal with handling those currently in circulation for the foreseeable future.

People who fiddle with pennies when they get to the are wasting not just their own time, but everyone else's as well.

They are not worth the metal they are printed on and have not been for a long time. The half-cent was discontinued when it was worth more than today's dime, so the penny being on the chopping block is long overdue.

Lincoln will still be on the 5 dollar bill, which is not going away for a long time, so the argument that removing the penny would be disrespectful to him is delusional.

My Final Solution : Total Penny Death!

My take is that we should legalize people melting down pennies to profit from the metals they're made from and have every purchase rounded to the nearest 5 cents. This would remove dead weight from the economy, contribute towards economic growth, stop wasting everyone's time and would simply be the most logical step forward. It is time to eliminate these burdens on society, it is time for Total Penny Death!
