How to treat a rabbit bite wound?

First off, I’d like to apologize for my long term absence. I’ve skipped two grades this past school year and haven’t had much time for myself, as well as the fact that I couldn’t think up much to post here.

Anyways, so here’s what happened. I was at a rabbit shelter, changing litter boxes. When I got to a certain rabbit pen, there were two bunnies in there. The first time I went in to grab the litter box, one ran up to me to be pet, and the other one ran up, sniffed me, then ran to hide in his “Hidey Box”. (Those are cardboard boxes that my shelter cuts holes into and then puts fabric over for the bunnies to have a place to hide, as well as not slip with their furry feetsies.).

I didn’t think of this as a big deal, as I just thought that one was shy. However, as I was putting back the litter box after changing it, the shy bunny must have smelled the parsley being washed from upstairs and thought that I was either delivering it or trying to take it from him. As I entered, he just ran into his box, no big deal, but when I set down the litter box, he sprung out and bit my hand, splitting open the skin in two places on my finger. I won’t show a pic here because I don’t want squeamish people accidentally stumbling on it, but I’d like to know how to treat it, if there’s a certain way.

I haven’t had an animal break my skin in years, and not one bunny even got close in my year of volunteer work with them once a week. The funny thing is that I’ve free-handled wasps, bees, snakes, lizards, frogs, alligators, turtles, spiders, etc. and have gotten hurt more than all of those combined by a bunny. So, does anyone have any advice? Should I treat it like normal, or could it get infected or something?

Just keep it washed. If you rinse it off with water it should be fine. You can put a bandage and neosporin on it, but i never do anymore.

Alright, thanks. My mother who had a rabbit when she was younger kept kinda asking about if the bun who bit me could have different diseases, so I just wanted to be sure. Thanks for clearing that up!
