The cold of the Ukraine Winters hit hard on Rainbow team as they traversed into Crimea in a stolen BMP. The Russian of rainbow were left in the dark about this mission due to the delicate nature it entitled. Inside the BMP was Monika Weiss code names IQ and a handful of other rainbow . She was the team lead for this mission and while it caused some grumbling it only made sense to put her in charge due to her experience with explosive detection. They came across a checkpoint where they had to stop and report in. The checkpoint was manned by a handful of Russian troops and a idle truck. Upon stopping at the checkpoint they cracked open the rear hatches and flooded out gunning down the checkpoint guards and clearing the area of the bodies. Thats when Mark Chandler code name mute spoke up for the first time. “Bloody hell this is going to be a nightmare if we get caught. We aren’t equipped to deal with an army especially an organized one with armor.” Thats when Seamus Cowden codenamed Sledge laughed a bit and punched mutes arm in a playful way. “Listen here mate these people need us dead or alive we must succeed. Besides you were the one complaining earlier that this would be boring and see no action.” Mark simply scowled and shook his head before they loaded back into the bmp and got to moving towards the next checkpoint.
The second checkpoint came into sight and they yet again stopped the BMP like last time but something seemed off. The soldiers seemed to be more cautious here and some of the weapon emplacements they had were aimed at the BMP. Mark spoke up inside as to say what everyone else was thinking. “I believe they know what we did.” Upon that being said some shouting came from outside and they yet again popped open the hatch and hopped out opening fire on the Russian soldiers who were caught off guard. They didn’t take long to respond though and some machine gun fire erupted where Seamus took a round to the leg just missing the calf bone causing him to fall down. Mark dragged him into cover as Monika took out the machine gun operator and they started off their firefight. Seamus just yelled in annoyance at being hit and popped off shots at those who tried to flank them doing what he could in his injured state. After the battle had been finished they tended to the wounded Seamus and dragged him back inside the BMP. There they scavenged weapons and ammo off the dead bringing what they could into the BMP’s storage. There they took off before any reinforcements could arrive and hid in an alleyway in a sector they had cleared out already. They watched as a convoy ed by searching for them not expecting a bmp to be in a tight alleyway which barely gave it enough room to move.
Seamus complained for a while due to not being able to stand from the gunshot wound to his left calf. He felt useless now that he couldn’t assist the others and he knew there was no way a helicopter was coming to pick him up so he had to grin and bare with the pain as they needed to ration medical supplies. Gustav Kateb codenamed Doc was looking over Seamus’s leg and all he had to say was “Merde” he didn’t like this mission one bit and was against even going but like anyone in rainbow he followed his orders regardless of personal feelings involved. They heard chatter coming from a building next to them followed by some screams as the door was kicked in. Seems the Russian soldiers were going building to building clearing out places that they could be hiding in. Thats when they saw a platoon walk by geared to the brim and outnumbering them five to one. They decided to keep hidden using some BFI garbage bins to hide majority of the BMP from view. While they waited for the platoon to Monika finally spoke up. “Did we get any Anti Armor weapons from the dead we scavenged?” Mark was the first one to answer out of the group. “We got a few rockets and some Anti Tank mines from the truck at the checkpoint we hit but otherwise we got very little to use if a tank decides to engage us.” Monika just cursed under her breath and looked back at the team. “Get some rest for tomorrow we hit another checkpoint anything we can do to weaken their hold on Crimea will help NATO take it back from the Russians.” With that the team relaxed a bit but kept on guard incase a patrol were to spot them walking by.
The next day hit and the team got prepared leaving Seamus behind with the BMP to recover as well as to not attract too much attention. They ducked and weaved between buildings and alleyways getting some weird looks from pedestrians who were out and about. Thats when they got into position overlooking the next checkpoint. They got themselves set up and waited for a bit as a patrol ed by. They wanted to make sure they were out of earshot before the gunshots rang out as they couldn’t afford to get into a prolonged skirmish against worse odds than they already had. Once the patrol was long gone the team opened fire taking out three of the checkpoint guards instantly and downing the others as they started to react. Mark used one of the RPG-29s on the armored truck that was housing a squad. The truck burst into flames as the warhead went through the windscreen and detonated killing its occupants immediately. They quickly moved in once the area was clear and scavenged everything they could before taking off again in the Guerilla warfare they were tasked with doing. So far they had completed their objective for the day by neutralizing three different checkpoints. They were expecting to get new orders during nightfall. Once the team got back to the BMP they were using as their Mobile Field HQ they checked in on Seamus and dropped off the nee supplies they had before stopping to rest for the remainder of the day.
