PSA: Tarantula handling

Reason 1: Fragility

Tarantulas are fragile creatures. They lack a hard exo skeleton making them soft-bodied creatures. Accidentally dropping them from even not that big of a height could have negative consequences. It could cause a ruptured abdomen, a broken leg or even result in death in some cases.

Reason 2: Bolting

If you’ve watched any video on a skittish tarantula you’ll see they bolt a lot. While you may think your tarantula is docile, chances are at any point they can bolt. This can result in possibly a case from Reason 1 or it can result in losing your tarantula.

Reason 3: Hair Kicking

Many New World species of Ts are notorious hair kickers. These are microfibric-like hairs on their abdomen that they can kick up at any point. Some species such as T. blondi can cause permenant retina damage or even blindness if it gets in your eyes.
