-In his youth, he had a keen interest in both science and music, he both juggled these throughout his early years. He tried running a one man band (like Greg from steven universe) when he was in highschool, he did his own vocals, played the bass and did several alterations with his use of sound with his own inventions. In one of his performances, that was where he met Diane and it just so happens that they went on the same school and class. They eventually became highschool sweethearts, after graduating highschool he still continued to pursue his career in music while Diane attended medical school in college but still ed him.

His career in music was slowly failing him and he got considerably more upset than usual, this later own would affect his general demeanor. He quit when it became clear that it wasn't working out so he decided to pursue the other thing that he was good at, science. He "coincidentally" signed up as a professor in Diane's college, they kept it a secret that they were actually a couple for appearances but it didnt entirely stop them from flirting non-stop and having some "private classes for extra credit". They eventually got married and had Beth, during this time, Rick is trying to work on several personal projects, including the portal gun. With numerous trials and errors, he became more and more stressed and violent with his moods and took it out on Diane and Beth.

He started to lean into alcohol to cope with all this and focus more on science, he neglected Beth and he wasnt there for her in most of her life. Due to Diane and Rick's increasing fights and dislike for each other, they eventually got divorced causing Rick to leave, only rarely coming back throughout the years check up on Beth. These were the lowest time of Rick's life, he wallowed in his own misery and blamed himself for everything. To cope with all this he turned to alcohol, drugs, meaningless sex and crime across the galaxy, he even did several suicide attempts. In one of his visits with Beth, he found out that she got pregnant with Jerry's child. He was absolutely livid and nearly beat up Jerry within an inch of his life as Beth begged her father to stop and he did but scolded her instead for being stupid enough to fall for a chump like him and being irresponsible. Rick left that same day.

At some point, he discovered the Citadel and hung out with the other Ricks. He then met farmland doofus Rick, he would constantly make fun of him like the other Ricks would. But doofus Rick didnt think much of it and he saw right through him and realized that he was projecting his insecurites on him and thought the same with the other Ricks. Ofcourse he was in denial but then realized that he was right so he found this Rick intriguing so he decided to hang out with him. Farmland doofus Rick tried to help him with his struggles. Rick came back to his family shortly after Beth gave birth to Morticia, everyone, especially Jerry was displeased with his arrival but Rick at this time was alot more mellowed out now and came to with accepting things. He stayed with them for a week then left again.

Over the years, Rick strived to be a better person with the help of his new friend. In consolation for his shitty behaviour, he did several good deeds and acts of justice across the universe. In the span of 13 years he became a changed man and he finally decided to come back home to make up for lost times. Beth and Jerry were still skeptical about him and for good reason but they still let him live with them because hes still part of the family. Morticia knew nothing of the past except for the stories that her parents told her but she didnt care, she loved him for who he is now and that was all that mattered. They developed a very strong bond as they hung around each other alot, whether it was doing adventures, helping him out with his inventions or just chilling, they were best buds.

Not everything was smoothed out though cuz Beth and Jerry arent as fond of him. They did not have much respect for him so them lashed out on him alot of times. They did this so frequently he begrudgingly decided to leave for good. Morticia was obviously upset over this, she begged him to stay for a bit longer and he complied. At some point she came to him stating that she was gonna come along with him, he was going to turn her down but then realized how awful her parents treated her as well. She told him in tears that she heard them say that if she didnt exist, life would have been better for them. This was the last straw. He allowed her to come along with him and before they left, he left a message for Beth and Jerry that they were leaving and also criticized them and that was the end of it.
