It's okay if you feel uncomfortable, but when you find a great partner I'm sure that you will find it a ton of fun. You should probably check out someone's profile before you pm them, or answer their message, to see if they have a history of unhealthy behaviors. That way you don't need to worry about dealing with people who are creepy or likely to cause a problem as often if at all.
I prefer pm to because it's less judgemental and easier going. It's just you and a pal having a fun time. Public rps are kinda scary to me. When I was younger I was being a noob and someone who was just lurking called me out and told me to leave. It was really embarrassing. I'd like to say I'm not as annoying and more respectful now though.
