happy birthday, mr holmes.

hello sherlockians!

today is the sixth of january, which is also known as sherlock holmes’ birthday. he is believed to have been born in 1854, which would make him 166 today. isn’t that crazy?

when arthur conan doyle created the fictional detective, he actually based him on a man he had met previously, joseph bell. and did you know that he was originally going to be named sherrinford?

sherlock holmes has made an impact on all of our lives, and if you’re in this community, you probably have a special love for him and the universe around him.

even though he doesn’t seem too keen about his birthday - only a few people close to him knew - i think it’s time we give him a proper celebration. in this wise words of john watson, “it’s your birthday. cake is obligatory.”

the challenge.

your challenge is to design a cake for sherlock! there’s many different routes you could take with this. got a knack for baking? you could actually bake and design a cake. better with a pen or pencil? draw one. perhaps you’re better with technology? edit one! have a way with words? you could even write about your cake!

in addition, if you feel you would work better with a partner, you’re free to collab with someone! you could work on the design together, or you could combine two of the elements. for example, one of you could write about the design, and then the other could illustrate it. this is a really open challenge.
