greetings, sherlockians!

victor here, bringing you this weeks edition. as i’m sure you’ve all noticed, we are in the midst of a global pandemic. it’s most commonly referred to as Coronavirus or COVID-19. there have been memes galore going around about the virus itself, social distancing, and toilet paper (or the lack there-of). and while it’s fun to make the most out of our situation, it’s always very important to that this is a serious issue.

me and the rest of the empty hearse staff decided that it would be nice if we shed a light on what’s happening in a light hearted way. what you may read in this post is just our take on what it might be like if Coronavirus made its way into the Sherlock Holmes universe. please don’t take anything you read as factual unless it is proven to be verified.

and again, while we are trying to have a laugh here, it’s crucial that you this is a genuine issue that is affecting the lives of those around us severely.

sherlock’s been in his mind palace for three hours already. john’s bored and in quarantine so he decides to make good use of his old medical textbooks. i don’t know why i did the spunky lighting either, it just looked cool aha.

(victor: maybe the lighting is from a fireplace  )

story.

John grumbled to himself as he walked down the sidewalk towards his flat after a long shift, resisting the strong urge to rub the tiredness out of his eyes. COVID-19 was putting a strain on the practice where he worked, and it didn’t help that some people (John had to remind himself not to refer to them as idiots) wouldn’t stop coming in to make sure, for the fifth day in a row, that they didn’t have Coronavirus. They were wasting resources, and they were trying John’s patience.

Pulling his key out of his pocket with more force than necessary, he unlocked the door to Baker Street and wasted no time in getting himself inside the building, relishing in the warmth. He inhaled deeply and realized that the air smelled like baked goods. ‘Mmm, chocolate chip cookies’, John thought, shrugging his coat off his shoulders, ‘just what I need after a long day of work. Now I can take a quick shower and pick Rosie up from Mrs. Hudson’s’. He smiled to himself, his mood instantly better.

As he ascended the stairs to 221b, he heard an unexpected sound coming from his flat. Is that… Let it Go? John rushed up the rest of the stairs, pushed the door open, and balked at the sight in front of him.

When quarantine first started, John knew he was going to need a way to keep Rosie occupied in the house. He found an old WiiU for sale on the internet, so he bought it and got whatever games Rosie wanted for it. He hadn’t got around to setting it up yet, since he had been so busy with work. Sherlock had, he supposed, figured out how to set the game system up.

Which still did not explain why Sherlock and Rosie were dancing to Let it Go on Just Dance, and were singing along to it as well.

Rosie was Elsa, which didn’t surprise John in the slightest. Elsa was her favorite Disney princess after all. What surprised John was the fact that Sherlock was Anna, and the fact that he was actually doing a really good job dancing and singing to the popular song. He had a wide smile on his face, as did Rosie, and John’s heart skipped in his chest. John turned his gaze to the kitchen, and his surprise deepened.

The kitchen was completely clear of all dangerous substances, breakable objects, and scientific instruments, and instead there were sheets of cookies there. John had thought Mrs. Hudson baked the cookies, but there they were, in his flat, Mrs. Hudson nowhere to be seen.

Sherlock saying, “Good job, little Watson!” pulled him out of his stupor. “You beat me again, I see,” Sherlock said seriously, scooping Rosie off the ground. “Your dancing skills are superb, how in the world did you learn to dance that well?” Rosie giggled and hugged Sherlock’s neck.

“She’s got nothing on your singing, Sherlock,” John said without thinking, a soft smile on his face. Sherlock’s head whipped around, and when his eyes landed on John in the doorway, he started to panic, setting Rosie down on the ground softly.

“John! I-I’m sorry, I know you gave her to Mrs. Hudson for the day, but she was just so bored, so we made cookies together and danced for a little bit. I was going to take her back down, I promise, but she was having so much fun and I lost track of time and-” Sherlock was cut off by Rosie grabbing his hand, begging him to dance another song with her. John smiled and crossed the room, stopping to stand in front of Sherlock.

“Thank you. This is perfect,” John said softly, brushing the hair off of Sherlock’s forehead and pressing a soft kiss there. “You’re allowed to spend as much time as you want with her in quarantine, Sherlock.” Sherlock smiled in relief. “Now,” he said, getting the attention of Sherlock and Rosie. “You two, keep on dancing. Rosie, I want you to kick his butt.” Her eyes twinkled as she laughed and nodded her head.

“Papa, can I play with Sherlock tomorrow while you’re at work? Pretty please? Mrs. Hudson can’t dance with me,” she said, looking up at John. John smiled and winked.

“You can play with him as much as you want, bug.”

(victor: i’m not crying, you are.)
