Hahey, welcome back to the Fan Fighter Clash matchup blogs, where either your dreams come true or you lose horribly, one or the other. If you last time, it’s just me going over each matchup, summing up both fighters’ good and bad attributes before explaining how we ended up deciding who won, doing that 8 times. However, AwfulBeast also wrote down some extra little interactions between the two fighters, so I’ll be adding those too, for a little bit of flair (I’ll put them between the fighter summary and the match results, you’ll be able to tell it’s his work).

You know how this works, so let’s get right to it.

Two memes in their own right going up against each other for our first match, this should be fun…

Fighter Summary:

Monika is quite the interesting fighter to talk about. At first, she’s almost a lackluster fighter, with only average at best ground speed, alright combos, and overall low damage forcing her to rely on winning neutral notably more often than the opponent; to make her job easier however, she does have great air speed along with a potent grab game and a projectile that makes her really good at controlling the stage, so she’s far from helpless. Additionally, her Joker-like mechanic (My Reality) is EXCEPTIONALLY powerful once she charges it up – while active not only is she stronger than usual with additional fun changes to her Specials, but she literally cannot die, she just refuses to lose a stock and comes back unharmed. If her opponent is unable to overwhelm her before her reality becomes real, or survive the onslaught that comes once it’s active, Monika will easily win… but with that initial lackluster kit, she’s only so strong.

Her opponent, Gaston, does not care for this thing people call “balance”. He’s not very slow, he has plenty of projectiles that let him camp YOU rather than the other way around (avoiding that usual heavyweight downside), doesn’t have many laggy attacks, yet still packs all of the power you’d expect from those beautifully sculpted muscles. As such, it’s difficult to deal with him reliably since he can contest you at any range and the high kill power his moves consistently have makes it pretty risky to challenge him as the match goes on. However, he’s not without faults – he’s still a big heavy guy meaning once you do break through his walls he’s easy to combo and struggles to give himself breathing room, and unlike most other heavies his recovery isn’t that difficult to gimp. And since his combo game isn’t as great as he’d like you to believe, beating him is a matter of outpacing him in neutral, getting him to throw out something risky, and punishing him hard for it.

-------------------------------------

A metal elevator rises through the floor of the colosseum, the top of the door having a sun-shaped logo on the front. The inside of it wasn’t anything special: a clean metal bench on one end and a white punching bag with two beany eyes on the other.

The competitor of interest, Gaston, sat his manly ass down on the cold metal bench, however since he was Gaston he wasn’t fazed at all, even if it appeared like he was wearing tights. LeFoue as always was right by Gaston’s side, patiently awaiting any direction Gaston was going to give him. He threw a few punches at the bag to try and get a feel for battle, shuffling his feet and demoralizing the sack in the process. It was at this point that Gaston had thought of something.

Gaston (Confident Captain of the Crowd)

“So my opponent is going to be that girl with the bow in her hair. That shall be an easy fight, as there is no way that she could stand up to the might and power of one such as myself! Even if she has some kind of power she is hiding from me, she has one weakness: She is not Gaston! Therefore she cannot hope to win against me!”

LeFoue then turned his head around, panting from the work he was putting into his plump body. His eyes were drooping and his arms were slowly being lowered. LeFoue then began encouraging Gaston, another sprinkle to add on to the massive pile of ego Gaston had built up.

LeFoue (Gullible Guy of Gaston)

Yeah, and nobody’s as incredibly beautiful and handsome as Gaston! Unlike that girl we are fighting in Round 1!”

Gaston glared at LeFoue from his seat on the bench.

”Was it too much?”

Gaston

”Yes. Yes it was LeFoue.”

Suddenly the doors from the elevator opened up, sliding into the walls of the elevator. Gaston promptly stood up and smirked, confident that he was going to win this match. LeFoue followed suit, trailing behind him as he faithfully followed Gaston into the colosseum, ready to do battle against their first opponent. Once onto the pitch Gaston notices that his opponent hasn’t arrived yet, so he takes a moment to cheer on the audience and get them to know just how outclassed this woman was compared to his mightiness.

Gaston

”Welcome one and all, to this glorious tournament that I am participating in! I am the Glorious Gaston, your soon to be Champion of Round 1! Because nobody wins a match like Gaston! Now let me hear you roar!”

The crowd roared with applause in response to Gaston’s motivational speech. Gaston threw his hands in the air, waving them towards himself as he wanted more. He also began flexing randomly just to show off more. LeFoue was jumping up and down as his idol was cheering the crowd on to applaud him for no reason.

It was at this point that Monika had finally arrived on the scene, calmly exiting her elevator with her hands behind her back, staring around her as the crowd kept cheering Gaston on. LeFoue had noticed her presence after a bit of time, so he stopped bobbing and pulled on Gaston’s arm. Gaston glared at his follower, looking down at him as Gaston threatened the man.

”LeFoue you fool, can’t you see that I am hyping up the crowd? Get out of my way!”

Gaston winds up his arm, preparing to punch the bumbling fool into the audience. However it was then that Monika spoke up to Gaston.

Monika

”Ahem! Gaston, I do believe that it is time that we actually begin what the audience has been waiting for.”

The man turned his eyes towards Monika, holding her arms behind her back expectantly, keeping a calm demeanor as the crowd cheered. Of course, she had to be completely focused.

Gaston stopped flexing and walked over to his other side of the stage, with LeFoue traveling just behind him. Gaston pulled a barrel out of nowhere and put one leg upon it, flexing and attempting to intimidate Monika into giving up. LeFoue stood at the ready, by Gaston’s side, prepared to do anything Gaston wishes. Gaston loudly declares a final proclamation before their battle.

Gaston

”Looks like it’s up to me to give the audience something to cheer for! The mighty hero of this tournament versus an opposing villain! Have at you scum!”

-------------------------------------

The Fight’s Results

Due to how Monika plays, deciding who won the match was separated into two different categories: how badly would Monika win while My Reality was active, and who won while it wasn’t.

I mean, it’s blatantly obvious that Monika has a decisive upper hand while her gimmick’s active; not only is she a much better character overall, but she cannot be killed for a whopping 20 seconds straight which allows her to throw everything she has at Gaston rather recklessly without fear of his kill power, which is his best attribute. However, we realized that it actually isn’t that bad for the hunter; his speed is pretty similar to the high-schooler’s and despite not being able to kill her he can still knock her away if she isn’t careful, and overall, his ranged tools and relatively quick attacks can keep her at bay well enough to not get completely stomped while waiting for it to run out. And we estimate that My Reality is only active for about one quarter of the match at most…

During the rest of the match, it was decided that Gaston performs better than his opponent. Monika does very slightly more damage than him overall with her quicker moves and combos, but Gaston is pretty close with his attacks and kills far earlier than she does, and his multitude of varied projectiles means he can keep her far away from him and beat out her own attempts at ranged play. My Reality is definitely strong but only winning for a small portion of the match (and only slightly winning at that) isn’t enough to cut it, and Gaston just fares better than his competition.

Nobody wins the first match like Gaston.

Match 2: Piccolo VS Sion

Hahey, welcome back to the Fan Fighter Clash matchup

An odd matchup between one who prefers to meditate and one who prefers to bash heads first and think about it never. Let’s see who comes out on top.

Fighter Summary

Piccolo is more of a methodical character, relying on zoning and various traps to take down his opponent. His main gimmick is his Light Grenade traps, setting up little bombs all around the stage to quash an enemy’s movement and either punish them for running into them or make them more predictable once they have to go around. And with a bunch of projectiles and ranged attacks to back it up, you cannot camp out Piccolo for he will completely snuff out any attempt at that nonsense. Even if you do break through all of his nonsense, he’s a heavy with a solid recovery, and it’ll take a lot to bring down even one stock. On the flip side, that brings in the gross part of being a heavy… he’s slow and combo food once you do get in, so if your damage is high enough his weight might work against him and allow you to break even with the spam you took getting there. And while he doesn’t lack a standard kit, it’s rather underwhelming unless you’re a solid distance away from him and dealing with his endless grenades, so as long as you don’t mess up too heavily it’s not difficult to get in once and stay there until he’s dead. He takes time to set up his wall and can only do so with room to breathe, so make sure that once it’s down, it stays down.

Sion plays quite the opposite way, to the point where I wouldn’t be surprised if tons of people called him braindead. He is about as exaggerated as a heavy can possibly get; he’s thicker than Bowser, hits as hard or somehow even harder than Ganon, and carries an ax that gives him range equal to or bigger than a swordie… and comes with some nasty tricks to overcome the regular weaknesses. He’s unable to approach because he’s too slow? With the help of his Neutral B and a bit of self damage, he can run as fast as Captain Falcon for a short period of time. Taking too much damage? He can put up a barrier that absorbs half of the damage taken before exploding with a very strong hitbox after a short period. You somehow managed to kill him? How do you feel about dealing with his gimmick, where every time he dies he comes back as an practically invincible and fast as hell monstrosity that will ignore everything you throw at him before punching you into next week? However, don’t forget that he’s otherwise the slowest character of the bunch, being a hilariously vulnerable punching bag once you get in, and his abysmal frame data means all of his swings both struggle to land and are super easy to punish if whiffed, which they will. Play smart, play safe, focus on abusing his high risk to the best of your ability, and victory should be yours.

-------------------------------------

Piccolo runs around the arena, desperately trying to hold off Sion’s brutal power with several light grenades and his light energy beam attack. It seems as though the match is in Sion’s favor however, as Sion keeps on rushing through Piccolo’s defenses and keeps swinging that large axe of his. The crowd cheers for the two fighters battling it out right now, as Sion is hell bent on getting close to Piccolo in this fight.

Once Sion gets close he goes for an axe swing, when Piccolo grabs the axe with his green tentacles, attempting to stop the axe from cleaving across his face. Sion responds by attempting to punch Piccolo’s face to loosen his grip, however Piccolo wraps his other arm tentacles around Sion’s free fist, the two clashing together as Piccolo holds on with everything he’s got. However Sion slowly overpowers the green alien, and Piccolo is slowly brought down to one of his knees. The audience goes slightly quiet as they watch in suspense at this struggle of power.

Piccolo (Thought)

”Rgh! He’s so...strong! I can’t hold...on...much longer. I need to think of...something, but what?!”

Piccolo then eyes behind him, at the edge of the stage, noticing that they are on the edge of the stage. He gets an idea, and having no other option he goes for it.

[10:55 PM]

Sweat pours from Piccolo as he utilizes his leverage against Sion to lift Sion into the air and behind himself, causing Sion to get offstage and Piccolo to release a very loud exhale. However he isn’t done. Piccolo jumps offstage and uses his downward aerial, a diving elbow thrust that drags Sion to his grave, along with himself. The attack lands, a loud crunch is heard as they both get dragged into the abyss. They have both lost their first stock.

Piccolo gets teleported immediately back to the center stage, where he crosses his arms and patiently waits on a floating blue platform of invincibility. As expected, Sion jumps from the abyss and back onto the stage. He roars as a black aura surrounds the beast. He flails his arms around and attempts to strike down Piccolo without mercy, his arms bashing against the thin, almost glass-like barrier that surrounds Piccolo. However he fails at this because the platform is invincible. After five seconds of the demon sprinting at top speeds uncontrollably, Sion’s carcass falls apart, black magic dissipating from it. It is then that Sion respawns on another platform, the magic forming the beast once again, ready for battle as always.

Piccolo takes this short time to ponder on his current situation and what he can do to actually win the match.

Piccolo (Thought):

”So my theory was correct after all. Sion can get an instant advantage by utilizing that attack. I don’t have the time to set up everything that I want to. I can’t do so. You must calm yourself Piccolo, concentrate and figure out a way to win this. You’ve dealt with worse before…”

With that, the platform beneath both of their feet disappears into nothing. Both competitors fall to the stage, with Piccolo landing in a Superhero landing position while Sion stands emotionless, staring down the creature. Piccolo conjures a ball of light in his hands and prepares to resume the duel once again, more determined than ever to beat this beast…

-------------------------------------

The Fight’s Results

The question we asked for this match was whether Piccolo’s walls would be enough to hold Sion away, and if Piccolo could manage if the walls went down.

Sion has to play aggressively so with both characters at their best it boils down to the undead juggernaut doing his best to break through his opponent’s defenses. With the walls up, Piccolo does really well, exploiting Sion’s gigantic vulnerable glutes easily and racking up a ton of damage if he struggles to get in. However, a couple of problems arise for the Namekian rather quickly; first, Sion’s ability to punch himself in the face to run at the speed of sound for a period of time means that Piccolo’s walls will go down relatively quickly even if Sion doesn’t just get around them via platforms… but it also allows Sion to completely prevent the grenades’ setup in the first place (Piccolo has to spend the beginning of the match setting them up, which Sion can spend buffing himself before dashing over to hit him at his weakest). Secondly, even if Sion does die from the endless projectiles, his ability to come back from the dead as an unstoppable abomination for a short period of time means that the downtime between stocks that Piccolo could otherwise spend rebuilding his walls is instead spent dealing with a giant pissed-off meatblock who can still kill him quickly and easily – by the time Sion dies properly and respawns with initial invincibility, Piccolo won’t have enough time or space to get back to his best, allowing Sion to keep him out of his element for most of the match.

And when Sion and Piccolo brawl up close, we deemed Sion to come out on top there as well; Piccolo is designed to fight at range and Sion specializes up close, meaning that the Noxian warrior will have an overwhelming advantage once he inevitably gets close… he has plenty of range, hits extremely hard, kills way earlier, and even though his attack speed is slow Mr. Pickles isn’t fast either, meaning that downside isn’t nearly as harsh as it otherwise would be.

In the end, Sion doesn’t struggle too much to break through his opponent’s barriers, and once he’s in it’s often an easy win. The undead juggernaut claims his victim.

…I don’t even know how to comment on this, it’s Santa VS a skimpily dressed dancer. Let’s just move onto the matchup before I think about this too hard.

Fighter Summary:

Kris Kringle revolves around playing at range and forcing opponents into his lethal tricks and traps, but is significantly more rounded and versatile while doing it. His Specials are kind of ridiculous, if you fall for even one of them you’re likely going to either get combo’d into oblivion or smacked with a strong Smash Attack… speaking of which, his Smashes have a fun little gimmick that allow him to significantly strengthen his damage and knockback for a period of time after using one, and he doesn’t need to hit you to pull it off, he just needs a bit of distance to throw one out safely (which he will be able to do since, you know, he specializes in fighting at range). Kris shines bright once he gets an opponent offstage, where his ledgetrapping game sets in – let’s just say getting through the wall of projectiles and various other hitboxes will be one heck of a time for his victim. To balance this out, he has weaknesses like a typical zoner; he isn’t that fast and his kit relies on ranged fighting, leaving him with limited options up close and the ones he does have aren’t very good. Kris is another case of a character who relies on keeping you on the spiked and painful side of a wall as he fends you off, so while he can and potentially will kick your behind into next week even if you do make it in, your situation will be far better if you get up close and personal.

On the other side of the boxing ring, Primrose is a unique take on the fast rushdown character, packing some versatile abilities and ranged capabilities on top of that. Her Neutral Special is similar to Monado Arts with some interesting changes, being able to choose to hit hard/refuse to die/move at Sonic speeds like everyone’s favorite monando boy while also having access to a buff for a bunch of moves or her take on Hocus Pocus (although that one’s kind of risky and not advised). Said move buffs apply to her sizeable arsenal of ranged moves, which can allow her to fight you from close to any range, which topped with her very fast move speed allows her to dominate the stage. And if she decides to get close, don’t forget that she’s a rushdown character first and foremost; she’s got fast combo-friendly moves which can and will rack up a ton of damage. However, she’s far from perfect; she’s light and relatively easy to beat offstage, and she has quite a few moves that don’t do much for her (in fact, some range from useless to downright self-hindering). She struggles to finish off an opponent without resorting to a Smash Attack or one of her laggy Down Special options, and both her Neutral B and aforementioned Down B force her to heavily commit to them with their long cooldowns. Beating her comes down to withstanding her assault and winning neutral enough times to take a relatively early stock.

-------------------------------------

Primrose sprints around the arena without skipping a beat, making for certain to close the distance between her and Kris Kringle, so as to not allow him to set up his nasty traps that could ultimately lead to her demise. She conjures up some explosive Dark Magic to outspace him and to get rid of the presents as previously stated. Kris Kringle has a hard time keeping up, his sack of presents lagging behind him as he struggles to lift the weight of his sack after some nice cardio exercise.

Eventually after some time Primrose manages to use her Panther Dance in order to gain a boost in all of her attack, slashing Kris with one arm across the battlefield, causing him to lose his first stock. Kris Kringle respawns on an invincible platform, light blue in color and somewhat electronic design wise. Kris takes this time to take a deep breath and fish something out of his sack of toys: It was another wooden toy, like the ones he had continuously used in their battle together.

Once Kris Kringle came back down it was time to do battle, however before that he laughed. He actually laughed. Primrose, puzzled by his sudden fit of laughter, rightfully asked just what the heck was going on with the little elf man? Kris responded in a light-hearted manner.

[12:11 AM]

Kris Kringle

”Oh, nothing my child. It’s just that I’ve never had to fight somebody as strong as you before, let alone fight in general! It’s quite the workout for St. Nick over here. I’m just having a great time fighting against you, out of all the contestants! It makes me happy to be here; to see and experience the wonders of the universe. Truly, it makes me jolly.”

Primrose is clearly puzzled by the little man’s words of surprising warm-heartedness. Primrose attempts to respond to the elf man, standing upright and her hands out to her sides.

Primrose

”Um...that’s odd. This also isn’t because you have some sort of affection for me or anything like that right? I’ve had too much of that for one trip. I don’t need another male doing that.”

Kris

”Oh no, absolutely not! I’m not like those men; I actually have a wife waiting for me back home, cheering me on in this tournament! So, you see, I gotta win this to make all the children in the world happy! Everybody needs to have a good Christmas not only this year, but all years!”

[12:12 AM]

Primrose is actually sort of astonished by the man’s genuine kindness and comion, even if it may be misplaced sometimes. She reflects on her experiences as a child, and how other children might feel if they were in the same situation as Primrose herself, without anything or anyone to look forward to. She thinks to herself for a moment before confidently staring at Kris Kringle, ready to do battle once more, smiling at the young man and posing into her signature position as she readies another one of her many dances.

Primrose (Thought)

”Well then Kris, defeat me and prove that you can do so! I invite you to defeat me to make sure all those children live the best lives they possibly can!”

-------------------------------------

The Fight’s Results

This was a relatively easy match to decide, due to 2Bands delving into matchups in Kris’ blog to explain exactly which kinds of characters the jolly man wins and loses against… unfortunately for him, Primrose solidly fits into the “this character completely ruins him” category.

Kringle’s tricks are no joke, but at the same time, they quickly fall apart against characters who are both fast enough to get around them and have their own ranged tools, and Primrose is one of those characters. She can dance around him rather easily, fight at range just fine, pop her version of Monado Speed to further shit on Santa, and since she does best in his easy-to-force worst state, there’s not much he can do overall. And to add insult to injury, one of her random Hocus Pocus-like effects is literally just Bounce, so if she tries her luck there’s a chance she can COMPLETELY shut him down for 16 entire seconds.

This is a shorter explanation than the others, but I think you get the point. Primrose takes the win pretty easily.

Match 4: Chicken Nugget VS Sekiro

Hahey, welcome back to the Fan Fighter Clash matchup

By far the most out-of-left-field character goes up against arguably one of the highest-quality movesets we’ve seen in a long time… but who comes out on top?

Fighter Summary:

Chicken Nugget is a rather simplistic fighter, being a rushdown-focused fighter with some stage control. Its standards overall are basic but practical, fast and good for combos with some kill moves thrown in here and there, allowing for an aggressive but flexible playstyle. The Specials however are almost all ranged and zoning-based, with a very long-ranged projectile-like hitbox, and two nasty lingering moves that either deal a ton of damage or potentially hold the opponent in place for long enough to get whacked hard. And topping that off with an average speed/weight yet small hurtbox… Nuggie is a pretty beginner-friendly character, well-rounded and doesn’t have any huge downsides. In exchange, it’s not particularly great at anything, it can combo but not as well as others, it can kill but not as early as others, and the kit overall can’t do anything special. As long as you can overwhelm it with better moves and avoid letting it abuse your weaknesses, you should do fine.

Sekiro though has so many quirks and gimmicks it’s difficult to describe them all here… he’s a glass cannon who can absolutely ruin your life if he gets his way and has the speed/strength to easily do so. His unique mechanic is a double-edged sword that makes blocking and getting parried extremely risky in the long run for both combatants, if you defend against him in the wrong way prepare to either die brutally or take so much damage you’re basically dead anyways, but in exchange you can turn it against him for practically a free kill as well. As for his kit, it alternates between extremely safe poking tools and high-risk high-reward heavyweight blows, allowing him to play plenty of mindgames with you and make some ridiculously unsafe things work as you panic. And his Specials, while slightly impractical at times and have finite uses, have HUGE benefits for him if and when he catches you with one, forcing you to be careful around him at all times. He has strong combos and even stronger kill options, so he is one hell of a character to fight if you don’t know how to deal with him. To keep him from being too good, the “glass” part of glass cannon definitely exists in his kit. He’s fragile enough even without his own gimmick possibly backfiring hard on him, but his kit also carries a ton of risk regardless; yes he has kill options, but they’re all very laggy and a free punish if he messes up, so if you can counter-mindgame him and call out a laggy move, that could mean a stock taken in your favour. And as I mentioned before, his Specials are rather difficult to use and not always helpful, so mix that with the risky half of his moveset and oftentimes his kit will be noticeably limited in various scenarios. Sekiro is not an opponent to take lightly at all, but even though one mistake on your end might cost you the game, the same goes for him too, so play smart against him.

-------------------------------------

Sekiro pulls the tiny fat of meat to himself using the grappler on his left arm, the point on the end skewering the Chicken Nugget. After pulling towards Sekiro strikes hard with his blade, but not before Chicken Nugget reacts and slices Sekiro’s neck with both of it’s fry katanas. How are they so deadly? Who knows, this man comes from a world of food, so don’t question it. Chicken Nugget’s injury heals somewhat as he jumps behind Sekiro.

The slice catches Sekiro off guard and he misses with the nugget. Sekiro checks his throat for damage, stroking it with his hand. No major damages, however it still hurts. But he did not have time to check, as Chicken Nugget had already lunged forward from behind with both fry katanas held above it. Sekiro pulls out his blade and clashes with the two sword-like fries. Some sparks fly as the two strike, however the Nugget pushes off of the clash and bonks him on the top of the head, then using THAT leverage to fling himself across the air, making travel across the arena fairly easy. He lands once again behind Sekiro, holding his two fries above his head in an X shape, preparing to summon something. However Sekiro stops to ask him something, standing completely still.

Sekiro (The Original Cyborg)

”Tell me Chicken Nugget...no, whatever you are...why do you fight? Everybody has a reason to fight, whether it be for fame, glory, vengeance, or something else perhaps. So why fight? What drives you in this tournament?”

The Chicken Nugget just kinda stared at Sekiro for a couple of seconds, pondering on why he would ask such a dumb question. However he didn’t think about it for too long, as he already had his answer the moment Sekiro asked. So, the tiny nugget responded with a cocky attitude.

Chicken Nugget (Dangerous Demon of Diabetes)

”Ha, why else old man? Only because I live for the thrill of battle, the anguish of my enemies, the satisfaction I get after defeating an opponent. Of course you would not get that: You haven’t been in nearly as many as I have! You are nothing compared to me. I have slain thousands, and you shall be another body on that pile!”

Chicken Nugget readies himself with his two fry katanas, summoning a flame within the gap of the X Mark Shape the Nugget had made. Sekiro sighs, and raises his blade above his head, pointing it outwards and thrusting his hand also outwards. He confidently replies to the Chicken Nugget with a dead face stare.

Sekiro

”Then I shall show no mercy to one who does not give it. Make those last two stocks Chicken Nugget: I’ll be sure to do the same.”

-------------------------------------

The Fight’s Result

Amusingly, this was the hardest round of sixteen matchup for us to decide by far, and it took a long time to debate. However, there can only be one winner.

Both characters arguably do the same thing (aggressive rushdown with heavy pressure) but in different ways – Nuggie is consistent for better and for worse, and has reliable tools that give it a slight preference for ranged, calculated combat, whereas Sekiro’s idea of pressure is a mix of weak but very safe/strong but very unsafe moves mixed together with basically nothing in between, and tools that often aren’t helpful but are insanely good in certain situations. Right off the bat we can at least say that Sekiro does better in advantage than Chicken Nugget does (since his kit strongly favours being in advantage and does best in it, although Nuggie isn’t too far behind), but that’s only part of the battle, as we still need to cover neutral and disadvantage.

Disadvantage was thankfully easy to decide, and we believe Chicken Nugget does better in that category – due to being well-rounded and kind of heavy (but not too heavy) while still being small + having a good recovery, Nuggie doesn’t struggle too much to break out of a bad situation and as long as it doesn’t get smacked by one of Sekiro’s heaviest hits it’ll die significantly later than Sekky will. We do need to keep in mind that while Sekiro can and will kill people at low% off of something stupid or simply via them blocking too much, it’s double-sided and Sekiro’s very light weight and relatively exploitable recovery means he’ll die just as early if not earlier if he screws up.

As for neutral, we feel like in both range and damage, the two are about equal; they both combo well and probably have about the same range, so there’s nothing helpful there. Sekky definitely kills earlier but his only method of doing so is with the aforementioned laggy moves, whereas Chicken Nugget takes longer to kill (but not too much longer) while having consistently reliable options to do so. So we felt like it came down to how each fighter gets advantage in the first place, and with that in mind… ‘Nugget has the upper hand.

Sekiro’s options are definitely strong but he relies heavily on mixups/jukes to get into his opponent’s space and stay there before pulling something off, but Chicken Nugget’s Specials allow him to fight at range with some seriously potent abilities; Sekky has to deal with what is basically a weaker Klaptrap assist trophy waddling around every now and then, a slightly less slow version of Failnaught, and an Arcfire-like lingering hitbox that can potentially deal 30% or more if Sekiro approaches wrong. And unlike cases like Piccolo VS Sion above, Chicken Nugget and Sekiro are pretty much evenly matched up close as well, meaning that with both its better disadvantage state and better neutral, Nuggie has the advantage for more of the match than Sekiro does, and that tips the scales of the match far enough to decide the winner.

After a long and painful fight, Chicken Nugget would come out on top, as absurd as that sounds.

Hahey, welcome back to the Fan Fighter Clash matchup

Part 1’s Farewell

Sorry for the delay… old habits and a poor work ethic resulted in me putting this off for far longer than I should have, and I’ll have to separate the bto two parts, with the other half being reserved for tomorrow. On the plus side though, hopefully the improved match descriptions will have been worth the wait.

As always, thank you guys so much for reading, and special thanks to all of the moveset makers who participated in this edition of FFC. None of this would be possible without you guys, and it’s a pleasure to work on this event.

See you guys tomorrow, hopefully.
