I never had a problem with pillagers, you will destroy them if you have a shield and good timing. Evokers were the ones that bugged me though, I had 2 armor pieces with protection IV and an evoker did 3 hearts of damage eventhough I was buffed up. Their vexes are so annoying... they fly all over the place making it as hard to hit as a bat is, they also do alot of damage and they can flow through walls meaning you or villagers are't safe either way. This makes evokers potentially the biggest threat in raids.
