My Rant on ZeRo's June 2017 Tier List

ZeRo made a new tier list.

But I’m not just going to talk about he placed Link too high, Pika too low, Cloud in #2(fine Cloud is prob top 5 in the metagame rn, most likely drop once people find more effective ways to gimp him). But I’m going to be talking about the “grouping” characters thing. Then I’ll talk about some placements I don’t agree on. So here we go.

So the first thing I would like to cover is the amount of tier levels there are. It consists of low, mid, high, and top tier(SPOILERS: Puff is sadly the only one in low tier, making her the worst character), meaning there are pretty much three levels characters can be placed in. Which makes certain characters seem like they’re a lot higher on tier list. I’m not sure why ZeRo did that, maybe to shorten the vid since it’s a one vid tier list, who knows. I personally have like 8 levels, bottom, low, lower mid, top mid, lower high, top high, lower top, and top top tiers. You might have a different one but ah well. It’s only my opeenion *dabs*

Anyway, the grouping the characters thing is something I have never thought of. Won’t say it was the best way to characterize the characters but that is a way to do it. For sure a good way to do it. Most of ʟ̶ᴏ̶ᴡ̶ (my bad, Puff the only lone low tier warrior)mid tier, I can agree with his grouping. They have similar, but not exactly the same weaknesses, making classifying those characters a bit more easier. I don’t think ZeRo should’ve used numbers but should have done like #23-25, like ESAM does in his tier lists. Like, these certain characters have around the same placing in this tier. Higher up in the list, I don’t really think ZeRo should’ve grouped the characters the same way as he did in mid tier but ah well. Speaking of grouping characters, DK/Bowser and Marcina. DK/Bowser I kind of understand cause they’re kind of the same character and excel a bit in different places, but not too much that make them two separate characters. But Marcina. I kind of think tipper changes MUs. Character who can’t get past tipper range will struggle such as Mario. Characters who can outrange tipper and/or get past tipper range can win, such as Cloud and Sheik. But this means that Lucina has more of an advantage against characters who outrange and get past tipper range characters since she doesn’t have a tipper and the tipper problems won’t occur. However, Marth will have an easier time with characters who can’t get past tipper range than Lucina since tipper range is where Marth is strongest at. Though I’m not sure which is more frequent, characters who struggle to get past tipper range or characters that don’t give a damn about tipper(more range or rushdowns). So for now I’ll agree with ZeRo putting Marcina as the same place.

Now everyone loves complaining so I guess jump on the bandwagon as well. Before I talk about my opinions, I would like to say something. If I say something like “I think this character(s) are not bottom *insert number*”, who else is going to be lower to satisfy the bottom number? Because someone has to be in those places. LIke if I say Link isn’t bottom 20, who’s going to be in the spots lower than Link while saying that characters like Ike, Roy, Falco, etc aren’t there as well? Just a discussion I would like to talk about someday. But I will try not to say this character should be higher than these characters.

First off, I kind of think that the Ganon/Mac/Pacman group should be higher but I’m not sure higher than who. I would say these characters are bad but scary, and placing them would be harder. Maybe Wii Fit and Dr. Mario are too high. I’m not sure.

Ness/G&W/Megaman group imo is too low. Corrin is too low as well. When ZeRo said something like Corrin doesn’t have much rep, I was like, Leo? I mean, he only pulled Corrin out at top 8 of CEO which was just yesterday when I’m writing this so I don’t think the vid was made after CEO, meaning he doesn’t know Leo has a Corrin. Anyway, one of my biggest complaints is Link. Though I’m happy with him putting my main in such a high spot but I don’t think he should be with Tink rn. Link and Tink is like Marcina and DK/Bowser where they excel in different places but don’t excel too different making them drastically different but I just don’t think Link should be that high. Tink has a better bomb combo game, recovery, and killing via bomb setups and throws. Link has better killing off of tilts, grab combos and 50/50 set kill set ups, and using rage. So I could understand Link being really close to Tink but I’m just not satisfied though somehow.

Speaking of similar characters, DK/Boser are a bit too high. Yes, they had some surprising tournament results but I highly doubt they’re better than the characters lower than them, especially Mega Man, Pika and Falcon.

So I don’t think you guys know that I place Mario at top 3. But god dammit, Mario is barely top 10? No. He’s a for sure top 10 character. I kind of think Marcina and Sonic are too low as well(noticed that ZeRo used Marthcina instead of Marcina. Who says the “th/s” sound twice when saying it?).

Biggest complain for sure in top tier: Cloud in #2. Sure he has one of, if not the best “smash 4 factor” with Limit but at 2? NO. GIMP THAT STUPID PIECE OF $5.99 TRASH AND USE YOUR SHIELD CAUSE HE DOESN’T HAVE A GOOD GRAB GAME.

Okay fine, he’s sort of the Ganon/Mac/Pacman in top tier, he’s scary but has a huge flaw. But Cloud’s flaw is kind of less exploitable than the other three I just mentioned. So fine, I’ll accept ZeRo’s opeenion putting Cloud in 2. But people should be like ZeRo and gimping Clouds more consistently.

(And then I realized. Why the hell the guy who constantly takes stocks off of Clouds with dair with Diddy say he’s #2 and many Cloud players don’t go into a off stage situation? Smh ZeRo.)

Anyway, here was my ramble about ZeRo’s June 2017 tier list. Hope someone didn’t do a high quality analysis before I did cause that would kind of suck. Meck, hope you enjoyed and don’t get dehydrated unless you live in Australia. Bye.
