Happy Holidays!

Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros character concept. In my last post talking about Spring Man, I said that I planned to be porting this entire series from a different Amino, onto here. But after looking at some of my older posts, I realized that many of those posts either suck or aren't descriptive enough. So I might on that.

Before posting this I typed the characters name here on the Post Search Bar, and i've found that this character hasn't been talked about since June of 2018. So, here I am giving the spotlight to Ori. So now, we start the blog. Welcom back to:

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

If you haven't checked out my Spring Man post yet, i'll leave a link to it right here for you to see it.

Before starting I just wanna make it apperant that I do know of Ori's apperance in Rivals of Aether. I did NOT look at the moveset for him while making this post, I always wanna make these concepts 100% my thoughts and ideas. If something is the same or similar, please know I did not try to copy.

Neutral B: Light Burst

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

Starting off with a new Skill found in the Definitive Version of the game, very new. This is a very simple Projectile. It's small, fast, and overall doesn't do that much damage or knockback. It can bounce off the ground and lay there, but it will eventually explode. It will also explode when it comes into with another Projectile or any kind of hitbox.

Unlike other Projectiles, you can actually aim where this goes. Send it up very high into the sky, or very far away, low to ground, etc. Now this may just seem like a very boring move, but just you wait, it will be better.

Side B: Dash

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

Another very simple move that is also only found in the Definitive edition of the games. Very similar to Fox and Falco's Side-B's, also Ori travels much farther and quicker. The downside is that it deals a pitiful amount of damage and knockback. Like, barely anything. The earliest you could die is at 200%,no DI, top blastzone. But again, pretty decent recovery and could help teammates in Doubles.

Up B: Charge Jump

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

So imagine the Dash, but straight upwards. That's a pretty good example for this. However, this Up Special is a tad bit different to others. For this, you have to charge to get a higher recivery. Now, yes I do realize that 3 outta the 4 DLC characters so far have chargable recoveries, but the majority of the roster doesn't so let's move on.

When just simply tapping the Up-B command, Ori will leap up just a small bit. This deals a very small amount of damage and knockback. However, if you charge the Up-B for a relatively short amount of time, Ori will boost up much higher. This also deals more damage and knockback.

When on the Ground, the Up-B can still be charged, you can even move around. The second you jump or release the charge, Ori will insantly jump up. Be careful when using this, you may leave yourself open.

Down B: Bash

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

This is where the character goes from boring to completely new, unique, and most importantly, fun! The Bash ability is a lot like Bayonetta's Witch Time, but at the same time it's way different. Allow me to just explain the move first.

The Bash Skill allows Ori to target a specific Opponent/Projectile, stop time, and the send that Opponent/Projectile in any direction the wants. At the same time, depending on which way you shoot that object, Ori will jump in the other direction.

To summarize: If you send your Opponent towards the right, Ori leaps towards the left, then vice versa.

Now to cover how it could work in Smash. Let's say you just used the Bash Ability on an Opponents character. You and them are now frozen for a specific and short amount of time. Your left stick can now be used to aim where you want to send yourself and your opponent. You'll most likely send them off the stage or down to the blast zone. This will continue to happen as long as you keep holding down the B button, Once you let go of the button, Ori will leap in whatever direction you chose. It's kinda like a command grab. And yes, again this works with certain Projectiles.

Now, what do I mean by "Certain" projectiles? Well, i'm talking about stuff like Items and Characters moves. See, stuff like DeDeDe's Gordo's, Mario's Fireball, Villagers Lloid Rocket, all stuff like that can be Bashed. But there are some prohectiles that make no sense to bash, like Fox's Lasers. You can still take damage and even be hit out of the Bash. And using Bash on the Projectiles don't slow down the enemy, just the Projectile. But then theres stuff like Charizards Flare Blitz that is apperantly a Projectile when used againts Hero's reflector. Would he count as an Opponent or a projectile? Honestly, no idea.

It should be said that this isn't 100% a reflector too. Like, if your opponent throws a Pokeball at you, and you decide to Bash it straight towards the ground, it's still their Pokeball. That is unless you send it straight into the air and then catch, then that makes it yours.

To talk about what the move does finally is it's hitbox and damage and such. Now, for once, i'm gonna try and actually balance the move.

When bashing a Projectile, it acts like a reflector. Increasing the damage and knockback if hit back onto an opponent. When bashing an Opponent, the damage is the same all around, that being a pretty decent amount of damage. But the knockback is different. If the opponent is at a lower percentage, the are barely sent anywhere. If they are at a higher percent, they'll take a flight someehere. This would mean that it can take characters out of free fall too.

════

Now, do you a couple of minutes ago when I talked sbout the Light Burst Skill? How I would take about it in a little bit and make it sound cooler? Now is that time.

Ya see, the Bash ability isn't just a command grab of sorts, it can also be used as a recovery. You Bash your own Light Bursts. This allows you to possibly mixup your opponent when you recover. Granted, this would be a slower way of recovering since they can see you send out the Light Burst and then Bash it, allowing them to predict where you may go.

OR

You can fake em out by sending out the Light Burst and then recovering normally

Forward Smash: Spirit Hammer

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

This skill is a brand way for Ori to battle. It's not in the Definitive Edition though, this is from the sequel, Will of the Wisps. You'll see more new moves up ahead. Do that there isn't much footage of these moves, so I can't give 100% accurate details on them. There aren't many gifs on Ori in general actually, it's kinda hard to make this.

From the small glimpse of Gameplay I have seen of the Hammer ability, it actually seems to send opponents upwards. Sadly, i've already writtin down the Up-Smash portion before this one, so I don't plan on changing it! Instead, we'll just alter it a bit.

My first thought was "Ok, can I inspire it off of another move?" The answer is yes, I can. DeDeDe gives the perfect example for this. I imagine Ori's move being like DeDeDe's forward smash with altered stats. Faster starting animation, weaker but bigger sweet spot, less range. They're still relatively similar.

Up Smash: Charge Flame

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

So sadly I could not find a Gif or a good image as to what this would look like, so I have to take from another characters moves to show you. The best I could think of is Ivysaur's Up-Smash, since it is very similar. Both this and the Charge Flame is a big explosion overhead.

Down Smash: Tail Spin

A very basic Down Smash that has no correlation to Ori or his games. It's a lot like many other simple down-smash's. Mario, Kirby, etc. Basically what happens is that Ori spins around on the ground, in place. He extends his tail for extra reach. Anyone hit next to him will take a decent amount of damage and knockback, this is probably his weakest Smash attack though.

Jab: Spirit Flame

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

Spirit Flame is the first attack you learn in this game, and it's not actually a move Ori uses. Sein does the work this time. It's a 3 hit combo in game, and will be a 3 hit combo in Smash. Sein spits out 1 flame, then another, and then one final one that is obviously stronger.

Dash Attack: Dash Roll

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

The Dash Roll is another new Skill found in the sequel. It definitely takes inspiration from the new Dash Skill found in the Definitive Version of Blind Forest. They're literally the same thing, but Ori rolls during this one. This one is obviously super easy to explain, Ori Rolls with a hitbox infront of him.

The attack itself is quick, quicker the banjo's Dash Attack. The strong hitbox found at the start of the Roll hit's opponents towards the side blast zones, the weak hit found more towards the end of the animation sends opponents upwards, but only a tiny bit. Overall the move isn't that strong though.

Side-Tilt: Spirit Edge

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

Uh oh, a Swordie

Yeah, in the new game they give ori a Sword. Infact in the new game they give Ori a lot of weapons, and that's because Sein isn't around in Will of the Wisps. That's why Ori now has a Hammer, and a Bow, as you will see in a bit. Let's just continue with this move for now.

From the gameplay i've seen, this attack can be used up to 3 times. A 3 hit combo or less. Up to now, we have seen Side-Tilts that take multiple button presses to work, such as Plant or Hero. However, they've only stopped at 2 presses. We have had 1 character that needs 3, that being Mega Man. His is more like an expansion to his Jab though. So for now, let's just say that Ori is the first character to need 3 button presses on a Side-Tilt.

Very simple move. 3 Sword slashs infront of him, decent damage and a lot of knockback at the end of the move. If times right, it could Jab-lock, but only the first part of the tilt attack.

Up-Tilt: Tail jump

Another just random move to give to Ori for his moveset. I'm taking a lot of inspiration from Fox and his up-tilt, animation wise. Instead of Ori doing a quick hand stand and flicking his tail, he does a full jump spin and swipes his tail. This is a very slow up-tilt to compensate, and deals a lot of knock. So you can't really combo out of it.

Down-Tilt: Tail Slap

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

Ori spins around while his Tail soars on the ground, hitting opponents up into the sky. Small amount of damage and knockback, and a fairly quick move. This allows Ori to follow up with an aerial or, if at lower percents, an Up-Smash for easy damage.

Neutral Air: Sein multi hit

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

haha what if we gave a character Palutena's Nair...but uh, nerfed a bit.

I have no actual direct comparison for a N-air, so i'm just making this up now. Originally I was gonna use Kuro's Feather for this, but I used that for Up-Air. Instead, I think Ori could have a multi hit N-air. And what better N-air to look at then Palutena's. Truthfully, I feel like it would be similar to hers, but with more endlag and starting lag. So slower overall.

Forward Air: Spirit Whip/Tether

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

Ok, now is when I start grasping at strings. Originally I was thinking of making this a special grab as that's what it seems to do in the new game. And in a way I will be doing that, as it can grab to ledges. Not that you'll need to though since this move does have short range. I don't really see how this would grab people though as it is basically just string. Whatever, this is still an ok attack to use.

Essentially what Ori does is create a thin line of, er, Spirit energy? Not sure what it is. He uses it as a sort of whip though. Anyone directly infront of him will be whipped out of the way. Although I said it was string like earlier, it's a pretty strong move. Decent damage and good knockback.

Back Air: Spirit Arc

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

Yeah so they gave Ori a bow for some reason, that's pretty cool. I struggled where to put this at first, but Back air seems to work perfectly. We already have characters that use projectiles as aerials, so this is fine yeah?

Allow me to explain it. Once Ori pulls out the Bow, he'll fire a spiritual arrow outwards. The start off the move, like right when Ori releases the arrow, is the strongest point of the move. Like the start of Wolf's Blaster, but in the air. The arrow itself is decently strong for a good while. After a while the Arrow will get a weaker hitbox that deals less damage and little to no knockback. You can see now that i'm basically copying Villager's aerials. Well unlike Villager's aerials, this one arcs downwards after a while.

Up Air: Kuro's Feather

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

This move works very much how you think it does. Kuro's Feather is actually in item Ori picks up during the game. He uses it as a parachute of sorts, kinda like Link's Paraglider from BOTW. This move is pretty easy to explain now.

Ori pops the feather into existince and holds it above his head. During this move, Ori's fall speed is slowed down, allowing opponents above him to fall directly on the feather. All the hitbox's are located on the Feather as well as between it and Ori. A pretty big hitbox actually. It doesn't do much damage or knockback, but the move is quite quick in of frames.

Down Air: Stomp

The Stomp skill is the perfect Down-air for Ori. It's a bit more special than most down-airs too. Although it looks like somthing like Ridley's down-air, it acts similar to others that don't send the player straight down. Here, i'll just explain the move.

So when the inputs the Down-Air, Ori will curl up into a ball and stomp straight down. The attack only spikes at the start of the move, if the enemy is hit afterwards, they'll just fly away. Of Ori connects with ground, a mini earthquake will happen around him, giving of small damage and knockback.

This down-air is a little special though. Special in a way that you can instantly jump out of it. If you use the move and miss, don't worry, just jump out of it! This means you can also Airdodge out of it too.

═══════❮═◈═❯═══════

Final Smash: Kuro

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

Kuro is the main villain of Ori and the Blind Forest. Ori himself doesn't have a notable move that would work for a Final Smash, so using Kuro seems like the next best step. My thought on this is that it could just be like Piranha Plants, a summon Final Smash. Ori uses his Final Smash and Kuro swoops down and then back up. Anyone hit will take severe damage.

I actually explain the possibility in the section right after this, so just take a glance at the next section. I put quite a lot more effort into it then usual.

═══════❮═◈═❯═══════

Ori in Smash Brothers Concept-[BC]Happy Holidays!

[C]Hey there SBA, it's me again, ready to post another Smash Bros characte

Now is the part of the blog where I explain why this character should be in Smash, but truthfully I don't have a very good reason now. This time however, i'm gonna talk for myself now. Why I want this character in Smash. I've just recently bought Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition, and i've really enjoyed it. Metroidvania's in general is a genre that i've been gwtting into for the past year now. Ori was, maybe the 4th Metroidvania i've ever played, it's not my favorite but it's one i've enjoyed more than some others.

Hollow Knight is my fav btw.

So, one of the reasons I want Ori is because I really enjoyed Blind Forest. That's not the only reason though, or else this whole section would be useless. The other reason I want him is because I think he would be fun. And that's what is most important for a Smash character right? That they're fun? I guess that depends what you think fun is...some people think Yoshi is fun...thats ok.

So now for what I say is the most important reason. Ya know when some people think of what potential DLC characters could be, they go with whatever they think is the most likely, or the one they want the most. Sora, Doomguy, even Geno to some others. But for me, well, i'd say it's time we get an Indie character as a fighter. It's lined up perfectly to get one. We get some Indie character Spirits, Shovel Knight as an Assist Trophy, and then Sans as a Mii Costume. It's all lining up to potentially get a Fighter.

Before you jump to conclusion, I don't think Ori will be the Indie character to be in, there are some problems with Ori being in. To me I think the most likely Indie character is coincidently another Metroidvania character, and one I already mentioned in a way, The Knight from Hollow Knight. Some would say Shantae but seeing as to how many people say that Spirits deconfirm, let's just say they do for now. Shantae would be gone. Some would now say Frisk since Toby and Sakurai are good friends and Undertale now being represented in Smash, but truthfully I barely see anyone even talking about Frisk for Smash now.

Ori is the kind of odd ball pick for a DLC character, the one nobody would see coming. Joker was another odd one, but hey now he's here. The problem is that Ori and Moon Studios made a deal with Microsoft Game Studios. I don't exactly know what that means, but I can only assume is that it means Nintendo would have to go through Microsoft again. Microsoft brings two problems.

1. A lot of people think Microsoft will never add another character to Smash after Banjo

2. Would Microsoft even be ok with Ori being the next one.

The First problem just comes down to opinion, so let's forget it. But that second problem is a real stump. Why wouldn't Microsoft choose a more known or bigger character for Smash. Both Master Chief and Steve can still be options. And it seems as though Cuphead is the more popular Microsoft Indie choice. Granted I don't actually know how these deals work, and considering how Microsoft is fine with Ori being in Rivals of Aether, maybe they'll be good with him in Smash.

TL:DR: I just think it's time for an Indie character in Smash.
