What If Triplats Were Illegal? #WBAT

(Disregard the fact that i almost forgot to participate in my own damn tournament)

So I love thinking about the meta and all that jazz and so i was wondering what if we just deleted triplats like... forever?

Edit: Triplats are Battlefield and Dreamland

Im counting BF and DL together here instead of one or the other cuz when you strike one or the other in a tourney set, the other also gets striked.

Nerfed Characters

Pika

Pika has so much usage with his Quick attack cancels, pratfall combos, resets and more just because of the triplats.

His mobility and his spacing on the triplats just really take control in some matchups, even to the point where it can feel like he's suffocating you.

It's slightly worse on DL because of the glitch where that stage tilts slightly down even tho it shouldn't....this allows for better quick attack cancels so he can even suffocate you more :weary:

Granted, his best stage is still Lylat. But people ALREADY ban Lylat against pika... This leaves SV and T&C, and even tho Pika doesn't do terrible on those stages, it leaves him with less oppressive options.

ZSS

Possibly having the best ladder combos in the game (right after bayo ofc), Zss can really cause a tear on BF/DL.

Her up airs are extra devastating on DL because the blastzones are the smallest out of all the competitive stages. Howeverrr with these stages completely gone, then theres no way she can still get these early kills as easily as she can.

I mean, theres still some setups to make it happen, but theres no way that she can get it at mid percent or so unless she has rage or whatever.

Tink

Oh oh boy

Oooohh boy.

BF is easily Tinks best stage, and his meta revolves around trapping and catching landings. On BF/DL he can trap his opponents, shark through platforms, and even have some nifty setups that only work ob these stages.

His second best stage can debatedly be T&C, just cause theres still a ton of space to work with...

Theres Definitely more characters that are hirt but I can't go on and on about how many Characters would be nerfed lol

No Circle Camping

Circle camping is pretty much essential to escape advantage and disadvantage states.

In your disadvantage state, you can escape to the platforms to keep your opponents guessing, having to work harder to touch you in the first place kek.

However, during your advantage you can use thr samd principle to help run the clock :grin: :ok_hand:

Especially when you're like a stock ahead, you can go and play a game of cat and mouse. Junping from Platform to platform with just a jump or so, mixing up between jumping or falling through, you can definitely fustrate your opponent.

Some Characters Need Circle Camping

Some characters like tink NEED circle camping. His disadvantage state can be soooo FUCKING bad because he can't land to save his life actually.

Other characters benefit wayyyy too much from circle camping to gain a better advantage state. Bayo and Fox for example, can take a stock and theb use their mobility and speed to run away from the rest of the match. Sure they can achieve this on other stages, but on BF/DL they can really just win undisputably~

Lylat Can Become More Popular

Yes yes i know i can already hear the screams and i can already see the pitchforks aimed at my throat but just hear me out...

3 Platforms For Circle Camping

With BF/DL forever banned, then this strat wouldn't be as viable. The only stage with 3 platforms are T&C and Lylat, but Town often transitions back and forth and there's too much space between the platforms to canp effectively.

Lylat can easily show more promise here. With the tilts being annoying af, your opponents can have more trouble reaching you. The platforms can also help ensure you to not waste your double jump as easily. Its more safe this way, howeverrr it can also be easier for your opponent to catch you as well.

Pratfall Tech Is Less Viable

Some characters like Tink and Pika have some pretty nifty pratfall tech. If you don't know what it is heres a video~

When you get hit and fall off a plat, you'll end up into a tumble animation, which can let your opponent true combo you into something possibly devastating.

However, these combos can pretty much just be done on triplats, since you need specific conditions in order for this to work~

Other Plats Are Harder To Use Pratfall Tech With

On Smashville, the moving platform causes some inconsistencies when you try to apply this tech. If you hit then too far away, then you won't be able to make them slip off. This can be harder to pull off, since you need to be way more exact than before to pull this off.

With the platform moving consistently, it'll be much harder to actually do this...

On Town, the two stationary platforms make this impossible. Sure they'll be in a tumble, but they wont be in a tumble for toooo long :p

The middle plat that moves up and down causes even more problems. Not only does it move all the time, but it also has too much height at times to fet anything off of it :/

Then we have Lylat!! Even with a possible resurgence in popularity, the Pratfall tech isn't reliable. Thos is because of the constant stage tilts. However, this may stoll be doable if you're skilled enough to pull it off at the right moment :eyes: :ok_hand:

The other platforms in the other stages are simply way too unreliable. This tech will seriously become outdated AF.

Thats about all i have for this. BASICALLY! With BF/DL out from commission, you as a player will have less oltions available to you. No circle camping, no access to specific yet powerful tech, and even a good amount of characters nerfed would cause so much disruption in the meta.

Good thing the stages are not actually banned :grin:

But if for whatever reason these stages come back in Smash 5 with a stage hazard? Well...good luck charlie.
