Origins
(I’m using SmashWiki for this section).
The stage is based off of Zelda II and Ocarina of Time, incorporating aesthetics from each. It doesn’t reference a specific temple, but instead multiple palaces which appeared in the games.

Appearances
Hyrule Temple first appeared in Super Smash Brothers Melee as a starting stage. It made a return in Brawl once again as a default stage and remained untouched. Due to the 3DS’s small screen size, Sakurai cut the stage from Super Smash Bros for 3DS, but the stage still made it into the Wii U version.
Layout
There are three main parts if the Temple: top-left, top-right, and bottom. The far left blastzone is a lot closer than it seems, sometimes leading to earlier kills or SDs. There is a small platform on the left that holds a structure with a semi-solid platform above. The height is taller than the Battlefield platforms. Next to the platform there are two semi-solid platforms (the lower one doesn’t extend the whole way) that lead to a larger island with a semi-solid platform. Next to it is a hole that divided the left and right. The right starts off with a wall and on the other side is a slight slope. To the right of the slope there’s a downwards facing platform and two ground parallel platforms above each other. The hole I mentioned earlier slopes down into the bottom section or the “Fight Club” by some. It’s really just a rock with a platform on the right.
Status in Competitive Play
This stage is generally banned in tournaments for multiple reasons. Size is a very large issue, it allows for some characters (particularly Melee Fox) to play a “hit-and-run” game. The bottom section is also a “cave of life”, a place where the player is given multiple tech opportunities if they are hurt, making it nearly impossible to die. The stage is favored more casually due to it’s large size and odd situations in the bottom section. It also serves as the easiest stage to perform the black hole glitch in Melee. It’s also the only stage where the Hyrule Jump can be performed.
