Splat Theory Talk 2 - The Rise and Fall of Spyke

Hello, fellow squid researchers, and welcome to a new theory discussion. Let’s get our lab coats on and dive into the investigation!

Today’s discussion topic is none other than Spyke. If you don’t know him, he is the sea urchin looking guy in the back alley of Inkopolis. Anyway, we found no history of his from prior to Splatoon, but we can guess that he probably evolved from a regular old sea urchin to the humanoid we know today, just like many other species. However, unlike other species, he is the only one! There is no other trace of his species anywhere in both Splatoon and Splatoon 2. He sits in a back alley probably because he doesn’t fit in with society, and decided to hide away from it. He can be seen surrounded by shaking sea snails and a screwdriver.

However, coming to Inkopolis with absolutely nothing and no way to survive, after a good 2 years he had a good source (the sea snails that were given to him, as he used the screwdriver to pry them out of the shell) and 10 million gold thanks to making his ordering cost stupidly expensive. A few weeks after Ammo Knights moved to Inkopolis Square, Spyke reportedly followed, yet this time was more of an icon. He was recognized and accepted there, which is how he got a home. One report we found through a sunken scroll said he itted to overpricing the clothes in Inkopolis, but now wants to give back with what he earned. He can now be seen in a café in Inkopolis Square. Huzzah!

This brings us to another shady character: Murch. Murch resembles a younger Spyke, though we have no evidence he is related. He does ask for sea snails from the player, which does hint at the fact that he eats them too, and also upgrades your gear just like Spyke.

There are two things that our research can’t seem to help us figure out though. Murch has a strange connection to Annie, as she helps him with ordering gear. There is no other sign of Annie’s presence in the game of Splatoon 2, and no scroll even mentions Murch’s existence. We also want to know if Spyke and Murch are related, or if they aren’t. They could be completely different species. One simple idea is hat Murch could be an offspring of Spyke, though we see no evidence of that. Could these two be in these scams together? Are they completely unrelated? Where was Murch during the events in Splatoon 1?
