Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a lively and lovely holiday season, and welcome back to Star Wars Amino!
It is that time again where the feature feed is downright flooded with lovely new posts from its s and from the contestants of our annual Battle Royale! This has questions for both, with questions for the contestants down at the bottom. If you were not involved, please don't answer the BR questions.
Please do to be honest, as we cannot make this place better without your honest . Boop, out! Love y'all 🫶
For those in the BR
Boop made an oopsie and added BR questions to the bottom of this post. There will be a BR specific after Iroh gets back. (roughly a week but give them their time) If you would like to use this to organize your thoughts, go right ahead. Please do copy your sentiments on the BR specific post though

Overall the month was a net positive, got involved in BR and got a lot of writing done, developed new skills and whatnot, made new friends and did new collab work, and got to see a bunch of folks get inspired to do creative things, which is always beautiful. Of course there was a bit of drama, but when you shove a bunch of humans in a space together and add clout for various things, there's always gonna be drama. Overall it was entertaining, though.

The ones that I've seen actively doing mod stuff have been fairly good, but the downside is that's half the team at best. Friendship aside, Boop's been very open and communicative about things, particularly regarding the feature feed, which although it hasn't always been the best news, I still appreciate. It's a lot harder to feel like stuff is being done when things are silent, so even if it's just been a "we're waiting on one person" it's still good to know that imo.

Greentags aside, I haven't really seen any of PR team active, and when I have had issues they've always been sorted by directly ing Greentags. Maybe they're doing stuff in the background? Considering activity is a requirement for the PR team (based off the applications last year), it's a little disappointing to see the team so quiet.

Always has been. There's a couple minor things I'd nitpick about (and I do, below), but overall it's friendly and welcoming (at least in the areas I'm active in).

I'm gonna circle back to this one.

New in regards to fan content, the community seems very receptive and welcoming. Regarding new Disney content... Well, I do see someone folks still aggressively preaching for the Legends continuity, and pissing on anybody who might like the Sequels. That sort of thing shouldn't be tolerated imo - people are gonna like what they like and at the end of the day it's all Star Wars. We're allowed to dislike stuff but hanging shit on someone constantly because they're a Sequels/Disney fan isn't okay. Less of that, plsnthx (it happened in my chat, I resolved it on the spot but I suspect it still happens elsewhere).

Gonna circle back to this, too.

No thoughts, head empty.

Hmmmm I got to catch up with my brother and SIL? That was pretty good. Also, all the collabs I did for BR, plus setting a new record for myself on how many words I wrote in the space of a month (87k apparently).

I am of the understanding that there will be a dedicated BR post so for the sake of not clogging things, I'll keep my info to that. And if there isn't, I'll put it in another comment.
Responses to 5 and 7 are forthcoming, just gotta try and cut them down
Okay fuck it you're getting the unedited version

Okay so I'm only gonna apply this to the staff I've seen active, which is only half the team. The others have been too quiet for me to really form an opinion about. Idk if they're doing work behind the scenes or are truly inactive, but that's besides the point.
Interacting, being people to rely on, yes. Boop is basically a constant in most chats I've seen (may be biased), Finn is frequently existing outside their schedule, and Iroh is usually also a constant, dude just shows up with tea and s in. I love that.
Featuring...
Look, given the low mod activity I think it's a bit silly to expect half the team to spend all their time going over posts. I get that it's supposed to be part of the job but when you've got three people (sometimes maybe four) doing all the staff work, it gets exhausting trying to keep up with shit and it leaves those few active burnt out. We don't like burn out, it makes people quit the team and then the pressure falls even more on everyone else still there. So, short of calling for another round of curator hiring and getting people who can actually schedule time to do the job (because it really is a job and anybody who says it isn't has never done it), I would recommend getting PR team , or even event team - honestly anyone who is actively a member of any official team - to help with it. PR team as I understand should be checking the newsfeed anyway? Maybe sending links to the CR chat as they come across good content could help get unseen stuff the attention it deserves? If the link's already been shared then maybe their recommendation counts towards a vote. [C]Alternatively, reducing the number of people who have to approve a post might help get stuff seen.
I feel like this is a good spot to highlight, but you can put Amino on your resume. It's not like they're going to look up your , but staff, please recognise that the whole "treat it like a job" thing is as much a benefit as it is a pain in the ass. "Operated as a community manager on a large community social media app" looks hella impressive for anybody trying to get actual PR and social responsibility work. "Duties included enforcing community rules and regulations, following escalation policies and procedures, creating high-quality relevant content within community requirements, responding to customer needs" - as someone who has been in irl management positions, these all tell me that you're a very responsible person who I can entrust with important work, and you've got customer engagement skills as well. Literally any other volunteer or unpaid intern position goes on your resume so why the hell not Amino?
1. My experience this month was overall good. I participated in the BR
2.Boop was a standout for me. Although she couldn’t feature posts in the BR, she was very prompt and clear in her communication of who would get featured and when they would get featured.
3.Boop counts, but they didn’t help me with any PR stuff
4. Overall yeah it has been. In the br, the people who had done it before helped out the new people and it was cool.
5. The one thing that bothered me was how slow the featuring got due to inactive . For example, some team rounds post got featured AFTER the team rounds had ended, meaning there was some lack of representation for both sides.
6. Oh definitely. My goofy detective stories and all of the other BR stories are proof that people eat up original star wats based content
7. Br untold. Please I want an excuse to write more cases.
9. I got accepted into Glasgow Uni and deferred from Edinburgh Uni
BR STUFF
10.Overall it was positive. It challenged me to create a lot in a month, write more, and I had fun.
11.I know this isn’t a mod team issue, but the overall feel this year was that it was purely a popularity contest. For example: Barry, Boop, Cal, and others put out a LOT of content. They ended up getting eliminated, mostly getting voted off by the same people. Those people clearly ed Vis a lot, and it hurt to see an event that was about having fun and making content quickly turn into “who can be the most popular?”
12. Honestly we should have one challenge where we can draw or write or edit something funny. The BR can get really stressful and serious for people, and I think giving us a way to laugh is perfect. I loved making memes for the slander challenge.
13. THE EMUS ARE COMING
Question
Can I make it a blog post and then link it? Cos this thing is LONG with suggestions, and if I tried formatting to make it more readable then it would fill like ten comments
The posts are designed to consolidate all community opinions into one post. Creating a blog post takes that away.
It would be best to stick to comments, as that way we can look over every comment in the same place.
posts are meant to have a paragraph answer at most, though we are fine with more. If you have to go above a paragraph, please compress the content of the content as much s possible.
If you have already made a suggestion to a staff member, it is best to leave that out of the comment.

Yeah it's more that I like trying to shoot off multiple suggestions for problem solving, so like... Fun times
1~ I really enjoyed the Battle Royale, and I really enjoyed seeing s get more active for it, even in chats. Things weren’t perfect, but overall very enjoyable.
2~ This may very well be because I just am not active in the same chats- but I only saw about half the mod team.
Of those I saw: They seemed to be pretty helpful. For me personally though, Boop was MVP.
I don’t tend to have a lot of issues that directly interact with mods, but when I did Boop addressed me about it, didn’t make me feel silly for, and overall did their best. I also saw them actively championing things to be better.
3~ This is always an awkward question for me because I very rarely go and check people’s titles. At best I check a page for names and pronouns and might happen to see a title.
4~ I’m not sure. Most of the interactions I’ve seen have been for the Battle Royale or casual chat. But it hasn’t been unwelcoming to any s as far as I can tell.
5~ 2 covers a lot of my opinion here so I’m gonna focus on the featuring aspect.
I understand wanting more than one approval for a post. Even if it slows the process down, outside of events ya’ll already have rules in place to counter that issue.
My issue with the featuring is that I’ve noticed the feed doesn’t always go in queue order, and at very least for me- there isn’t always a response for why something isn’t feature worthy.
It’s been a hot minute since I posted on one of these, but this has been reoccurring for me since I became very active again. When my stuff is not deemed worthy of the feature feed- assuming opinions were even made about my work at all- I don’t ever get to find out, let alone why. I just get to sit and watch the timer tick out for its eligibility.
I don’t know if this is specifically a problem for reviewing art, as art is subjective- but even just knowing “hey we don’t subjectively find it good enough for the feed” would still be a nice step up from the radio silence.
(To be continued.)
(Cont, cause I’m too wordy. Lol)
Bb~ For a while now I’ve been pretty discouraged about even offering up a post to the feed because of it unless I’m particularly proud of it.
If I’m the only one facing this issue, so be it- but I’d really hate for anyone else to end up getting that build up anxiety or to be discouraged for similar reasons.
6~ Any Star Wars content I make or think of making- this is the first place I think to go with it. If anyone has been unwelcoming I have not seen it.
7~. Not full ideas at the moment, but I would like to see more events that allow people to add to the Lore of the Amino’s version of the Star Wars universe, much like the Battle Royale did. Maybe more things that encourage team work?
8~ This question is not for me lol
9~ The Battle Royale really brought out some inspiration in me that I was not expecting. Also started to make better friends because of the event. Also see my glowing review of a particular green bar in question 2
10~ I greatly enjoyed the Battle Royale.
11~ As far as battle royale goes? I’d just say that whatever new information we got in the chats about the round, I’d like to see in the next blog that relates to it. Just cause wheel spins and round challenge announcements often fell when I was very much at work.
12~ Not ideas for what’s in the challenge, but I’d like to see every other round be a challenge round.
I’d also like to see bonuses for making content beyond that, whether it’s just making or if it’s featured. Maybe x amount of features = revival?
13~ I think I’m good now. Lol
1. Event month was very fun for the first fortnight, however I noticed a great deal of chagrin with the BR challenge as time went on as some contestants considered themselves sabotaged by the teams they were put into; I know the teams were made to be random and doing anything less would inevitably lead to for unfairly skewed teams, but I feel having teams at all kind of invalidates the works of some when their counterparts are either not pulling their weight or making mistakes which causes everyone on the team to be punished
2. I haven’t really interacted with the mod team in any formal capacity this month, so I can’t really say anything negative; most of them are good conversationalists
3. No, but I haven’t sought it
4. As it stands, I believe so, though the dwindling popularity of Amino has disrupted the synergy of auld lang syne
5. Again, difficult to say as I haven’t interacted with the staff much this year; I have heard complaints and complements
6. Yes, aside from the unchangeable problem of Amino’s dwindling ship
7. I having a lot of fun with fanon lore challenges: things like the what if challenge, create your own droid challenge and create your own faction challenge; also appreciation challenges are fun as they give s a chance to highlight characters/planets/stories/eras they enjoyed
8. Refer back to my answers on question one
9. Well I thought the last three months was a good time for the SWA roleplayers; community engagement in that area may come down to the end of year holidays but it brought back a good deal of synergy and even OOC convos brought about from the rps were great
