Greetings one and all! Welcome to my latest art blog! Today I bring you Patches and Ahbs. I’ve had them on the brain, and after the last one with them feeling all sad… I wanted something with them feeling a little happier.

This is another redo… the original I had actually made into an animation- and I’m not sure if I’m going to attempt it with the redo or not- but I might.

So, as with normal redos, my Timelapse is faster for the original, and then normal speed for the Star-Wars-ification of the piece. However… I’ve been fighting with the bots lately… so the Timelapse starts a bit in… because I didn’t design the clothes at first on the original- and I’m not risking the bots anger over that.

I’m hoping it will still be enough proof of work for a feature- but if not, c’est la vie.

Anyway- here are the cuties, being cuties. This does take place later in the story… as one may or may not notice by Patches’ arm… or… lack there of. Replacement there of? Robotic replacement.

I had, several years ago written about the moment when that happens… but…. That moments going to be retconned… it’s still going to happen, and the art I did of their wide eyes as they are freaking out about it will still apply. However how it goes down is updating. They aren’t going to be the only two there anymore….

Still going to be traumatizing for them both- but now it’s not… entirely her fault. And they aren’t the only ones there…. But I’m going to save those details for another piece. Gotta keep some surprises for ya’ll to look forward to.

Assuming I don’t get too hyper fixated on my new project… I’m about to be in a SW5e game- and I’ve got quite a bit of art coming for that. I’ve actually got a decent amount of backlog of art for ya’ll- if the bots stop fighting me. -.-

Anyway- back to Patches and Ahbs. I don’t know why I decided to make this later in their story… considering how much more work that made this- because Patches’ arm design needed an update. Some parts were kept- but a lot of the original design for it was just… shapes that I hoped looked right.

So, to finish this, I had to first redesign his arm first. Made it work better, asked Rev how Patches would wire his arm… I expected him to give me a color to fill them with and he gave me a whole detailed thing with like 6 different colors, and various thicknesses… was a whole thing.

I’m glad I did it though. Sometimes it’s nice to update your work- which is probably why I’ve been doing all these redo arts lately. It’s nice to see what you can make on the same bones of a piece, and seeing how you might have improved in various ways, or even just what you might’ve done differently.

Ahbee has also been getting a little bit of an update. Though for her it’s more of an outfit update. Now don’t get me wrong- I think her censor bar top and flowy skirt are very fun(ny), and I enjoy the design for her a lot. Despite the comparisons she gets to Talon for it…..

However… in light of my war the bots… I’ve been more anxious over her design lately. On a different site, I might have left it alone and never thought about it… but on amino, I’ve come to realize that sometimes, in some poses, or if you can’t see more than her shoulders… she doesn’t exactly look dressed. Which is unfortunate.

So I’m going to be experimenting in giving her different outfits, bits of armor, with and without jewelry, and all sorts of mixing and matching of these things. For this time I gave her pauldrons. I don’t know if these are the pauldrons she’s going to keep for long term, or if I’m going to constantly have her wardrobe update… (I feel like she’d have a lot of outfits if she really had her way)… but for this one… she has them.

I think in the future I’m going to work on/ practice shading metal better. I don’t hate how this came out- but I definitely think that I have the potential to do better. Art is a constant learning process after all. However I do try to keep how long I work on any particular piece limited.

It was a hard lesson to learn, but I find that if I just keep fixing and fixing and fixing things- I’ll never really finish it. And the new things I’ll start will be limited. Even worse, I won’t feel good about it, having endless unfinished projects and feeling like I have nothing to show for it. So I let myself stop, even when I know I can improve- because art isn’t about being perfect. It’s about creating, and for me- about enjoying what I create. Or, at least feeling through the act of creation.

Anyway… I hope ya’ll liked this one. I used to love drawing kisses, but now I’m starting to really appreciate the lingering moment just before one in art…. But feel free to let me know what ya’ll think- or what ya’ll might wanna see! And of course… as always:
