This is for #2020MarchWW
I had a lot of fun with the last one so I thought I would try again
I hope I understood the prompt. This is about Marine turning to the rebels side.
At Peace
Marine closed her eyes finally letting the peacefulness off the planet, the future colony, sink in.
Functionally is was the same as all the others. It was the same job she always had. Explore, report, move on.
But as she flew through the planet, completely devoid of life, she couldn’t help but become encomed by the peace.
A voice shot through the darkness.
“You’re going to get us caught!”
Light flooded into Marine’s eyes.
“Calm down Silver, no one’s here.”
She flew to the voice.
“You’re being stupid. We have to at least be careful,” a third voice added.
She spotted a green gem, and two gray gems.
“I’ll be as loud as I want!”
The one incessantly screaming had limb enhancers. A weak gem. So she had been told
“Shhh”
Rebels. They must have been.
“Hello, invisible gems on this abandoned planet!” they said, sarcasm practically dripping from the statement.
Shut up.
“This is why I come with you on these missions.”
Marine turned to focus on the green one. She recognized that incredulous, entitled tone.
She recognized it from thousands of years on Homeworld. From gems above her. From other Aqua Marine’s.
Without thinking she pulled out her wand and used it to throw the green gem into the nearest rock, proofing her before she had time to scream.
“Forest!” the other two screamed.
Forest? There were no gems called Forest.
She recognized one of the gems as a Silver, a high ranking gem. Around the same rank as herself.
“Silver. Why do you stray from your position?” she asked, a line that was practically scripted for her.
“Well... you see...”
“Boring!” Marine said. She saw a twinge of sadness in the Silver’s eyes. She felt a twinge if guilt.
“You,” she said pointing at who she assumed was Howlite, “Tell me why you’re here. I don’t want to be talking to such a weak gem that they need technology to compensate but here I am.”
“I know more than you’ll ever know,” they responded.
“That type of talk could get you shattered on Homeworld,” she warned.
“Is it hard to be this pretentious all the time?”
Finally she gave in, dropping the act, and said, “Your ‘Forest’ seems to find it quite easy.”
Howlite laughed and said, “I knew that couldn’t be your real personality. Now what are we going to do about Forest.”
“I mean I like you,” Marine said, even though she knew that their shards should have been surrounding her by now.
Silver spoke up and in a voice barely rounder than a whisper he said, “You could us.”
Marine stared at him. She wanted to be disgusted. Repulsed by just the idea. But there was something about him that made her want to trust him.
She had to shatter them.
She had to.
She was supposed to.
She didn’t want to.
She couldn’t.
She wouldn’t.
“I promise you’ll be happier,” he added.
“Might as well,” she said trying to sound casual even though nothing about this was casual, “I mean I can’t shatter you so I can’t go back anyway.”
“That’s it!” Howlite yelled, “That’s all it took? Do you know how long it took to convince Rose?”
“Nope,” Marine said flying down to their level.
She then turned to Silver and said, “Don’t worry, I don’t think you’re boring.”
“Thanks,” Silver said.
And when she walked off with them she didn’t need to close her eyes to feel at peace.
