Well, what I am asking is do you have to use irl gems for ocs? Or can you make up one, like if I came up with a ginger quartz or a strawberry blond pearl. and it turned out that those don't actually exist ( I'm not entirely sure about the quartz but examples are examples) Could you do that? Or does it go against the nature of su, with them using it REAL gems. My reason for this question is that I am creating a story with some gem ocs of my own, and I came up with one gem. But when I tried to find it online for reference, it didn't exist. So can i use fake gems?

As long as you're not entirely making it up, like "this is my gemsona bananastoneyite", and it's more for colors (like a ginger quartz!), imo you're good :ok_hand:
I've begun to do that, so I think it is fine to have made up gemstones as gemsonas!
