im sorry in advance for any inconsistencies, or any grammar or spelling mistakes.

this is the story of how the character i designed for this contest came to be. (they're a fusion )

please keep in mind that some of this story takes place where pink diamond still exists, which is why white diamond is much less strict in some places.

...

Oh.. let's see..

I guess I'm under White Diamond's court.. I've been dispatched on Homeworld... In Era one.. and.. my gem?... A Black Onyx...

Alright. Let's emerge.

Right after she emgered, she could feel.. the kindergarteners' eyes.. drilling into hers..

"A Black Oynx?"

" How rare!"

"But.."

"Her gem!"

"Yeah, I see it! Shes... off-color!"

"How repulsive."

My- my eye! My gem! It's a cluster! I was supposed to emerge as multiple gems, but... I only emerged as one! I'm a waste of resources! Some might say an off-color! Oh no, what am I going to do?

But... suddenly,... a voice pierced her ears.. and, she was forced.. back into reality.

"An off color? Let me see."

The voice was stern, serious.. yet somehow soothingly soft. At least she could recognize that the voice didnt belong to any diamond.

"She's right over here, ma'am, look at her!"

"Hmm..."

The gem walked towards the terrified Onyx, while a quartz ran off to a warp pad in the distance.

Well, this is it. I'm going to be shattered without ever even being of service to White Diamond. I'll be shattered, and-

"What do you all mean? This off color? You all want me to shatter her, but look closer! Sure, she was supposed to emerge as multiple, but that also means she has the power of multiple! She could be a great asset to us!"

The strange gem then looked at her, and held out her hand.

"Hello, hope I didnt give you a scare. I'm Rhodochrosite, but you can call me Rhod. I oversee gem production at this kindergarten. Now, let's go and get you to your station."

Rhod helped her up, and together, they walked towards the warp pad.

"Halt!"

It was a Topaz guard. She stood in their way menacingly, giving the off-color Onyx a nasty stink eye.

"State your cut, facet, and your purpose."

"I'm cut 3YS, facet 2, and this is..."

She stood there puzzled. Since the onyx was supposed to emerge as multiple, it was hard to determine her Homeworld cut name.

"Well, I suppose she's... cut 7OPLMOA, facet 2. Were just getting this Onyx to her station. Although, her station may be different than the normal Onyx because she's.."

"Off color,"

The Topaz said in the most disgusted tone she could muster. Then, she pulled up a holographic screen that seemed to appear out of nowhere, typed something in, then smiled a wicked smile.

"Ah, yes. 7OPLMOA, you are scheduled to meet White Diamond in just 2 minutes. A quartz from your facet seemingly reported the presence of an off color to her, and now, she wishes to speak to you personally."

When Onyx looked over at Rhod, she had a look of pure terror on her face.

"White Diamond.. herself.."

"I.."

She shook her head vigorously.

"No. This is what you get for being an off color. I'm sorry. I shouldnt've tried to protect you."

Onyx noticed that Rhod was trying her best to keep a strong stance, but she noticed she was also trembling, just a little bit, and she swore that she could see tears in her eyes, too.

"So, you're the disgusting little off-color that's been reported to me, hmm?

Every inch of her body was trembling in fear. She looked behind her, and saw Rhod standing near the doorway, looking at Onyx.

"I-"

"How am I supposed to hear you when you're MUMBLING, Starlight?"

"M-My Diamond! I-"

"White?"

Suddenly, a new voice echoed through the room.. but it wasn't Rhod.

The Onyx watched as the voice in the room bounced across the walls.. and landed... towards where the new voice.. came from.

It was.. Pink Diamond.

"White! What's all this ruckus about? How am I supposed to plan our next ball when you're screaming at this poor gem? What's going on?"

"Pink, were dealing with an off-color. I would appreciate it if you removed yourself from this situation."

"Oh! She looks fun! Why dont we just-"

"Pink. I'm about to shatter... it. Stand back."

"What? No! Just look at her! She looks so fun! How about.. we decide her fate AFTER the ball?"

"..."

"Oh, Pink... Fine. But next time--"

"Yay! Come on, off-color! Let's go plan a party!"

Onyx grinned ear to ear, but was hit with realization when when she looked behind her once more, and saw Rhod, still standing in the doorway.

Rhod, now crying with joy and blushing, mouthed the words "Meet you at the ball,". Onyx nodded and gave a thumbs up.

"Oh, Pink! That was delightful! You really know how to throw a ball!"

"Yes, White, I know-... but what about the Onyx? You're gonna keep her, right?"

"What?! Pink, she is an off color. I will not-"

"Dont pretend, White! You loved her! She even has a pan flute instead of a weapon! You should keep her and play with her as I do with Spinel! Or, at the very least, keep her as your.. 'royal entertainer'? Oh, and that Rhodochrosite, too! I think she likes that Onyx."

"Pink, I do not appreciate-"

"..."

"...You're.. you're right. I do like them..."

"At least that Onyx will be of use to me now.."

Silence..

Silence was now the only thing Onyx could hear anymore.

Usually, by this time, the silence would be replaced by the sounds of delighted gems dancing at Pink's parties.

...

Onyx flicked away the holographic screen in front of her, and finally worked up the courage to speak.

"W-white?",

Onyx mumbled,

"Your extraction with Blue and Yellow is due in 30 s-seconds!"

".."

White said in a monotone voice;

"Cancel the event."

..She was obviously on her last nerve.

..And she had a right to be.. news just came around that.. Pink is no more.. she could snap.. at any moment..

However, it seemed to be clear.. that Onyx didn't understand that. She was too busy thinking about Rhod.

"But,..."

*Ahem-*

My Diamond! I am not saying your choices are wrong, but I believe that being together with-"

"Onyx, by saying that, you object my authority. Do you want to be shattered?"

Onyx swallowed.

"White, I believe tha-"

"I BELIEVE THAT THAT'S ENOUGH."

In less than a millisecond, White held up her hand.. and suddenly, a brilliant, sinister, powerful light.. radiated from her hands, and suddenly.. Onyx.. was.. corrupted..

White finally snapped.

She knew White wouldn't shatter her, but..

She knew..

She knew if she stayed any longer, she'd at least be cracked. She was so scared..

If White Diamond cracked her gem, she would overall be cracked and corrupted. And that.. that would be completely unacceptable.. and if White wouldn't shatter her, someone else would.

..The only thing she could do if she wanted to live.. was run.

Run to where no-one could find her.

Earth.

Why?..

Just maybe.. she could find Rhod there.

So, Onyx ran to the nearest warp pad, and ran.

She was trembling, as her corrupted self became more twisted and less sentient by the second.

The Diamonds could find her at any moment.

For a while, she was simply absorbed in her own mind, until she.. looked around her..

Earth.. what happened?..

The land was torn from the ground, and the skies dull...

...It reminded her of how she felt when she heard the rumor about Rhod.

Onyx hadn't seen Rhod since the ball.

Onyx had heard she was dispatched to Earth, and was supposedly shattered...

but she didnt believe that.

..I mean, she always heard rumors and short stories about what happened on Earth and what happened to Rhod, but.. that's all that she had.

Rumors.

All she was doing now was wandering around as a mindless, corrupted gem.

She was fading away.. she was losing herself..

But.. in the distance..

No..

She was sure she was imagining things...

Everything was in a blur.

Who am I?

Is it really you?

You arent shattered?

Wait, how'd we..

What am I?

And just like that, they.. unfused?

"Rhod!"

"Onyx!"

Rhod was alive.. not shattered, but cracked..

But, still, Onyx was relieved. Better cracked than shattered.

How they fused?

Apparently, even faster than how White corrupted Onyx, Rhod saw Onyx corrupted in the distance, ran over to the sad gem that layed lurched over and corrupted, .. and.. they.. well, you know the rest.

What they would do next?

Well.. they certainly couldnt go back to Homeworld.. so maybe..

Just maybe..

They.. could live together as a fusion.. on this dull planet, never to be found, never to be seen.

It sounded like a good plan to them.

yeah, that story was pretty bad. so many elements that i could improve on... i hope you enjoyed it, though.

now, onto the actual gems!

Black Onyx before corruption

~ Very suspicious

~ Can shrink and grow pan flute at will

~ Depressed all the time

~ Played music at Pink's parties, performed for White as a jester, and even helped White with her schedule sometimes, as a pearl would.

~ Incredibly strong

Current Black Onyx

~ Is only half-corrupt when she's around Rhod, otherwise, is fully corrupted.

(, corruption corrupts the mind, not the body, and Rhod helps with making her mind less corrupt, because Rhod makes Onyx happy.)

~ Is 75% sentient when half-corrupt, is 5% sentient when fully-corrupt.

~ Still depressed all the time

~ Its incredibly hard for her to summon her pan flute (because she's corrupt)

~ Gae for Rhod

Rhodochrosite before the war

~ Always cheerful, seeing the good in everything.

~ Cheers up Onyx when shes upset

~ Never got depressed

~ Basically, neutral good. Would do justice even if it meant breaking the law.

~ Although she looks like she would belong to Pink Diamond's court, she actually belongs in White's court.

Cracked and semi-corrupted Rhodochrosite

~ Faught in the gem war for Earth, where she was cracked

~ Survived the Diamond's attack on Earth because her mind *was* extremely sound, however, recently fusing with corrupted Onyx resulted in her arm getting corrupted permanently.

Basically, because of all the cards stacked up against her (The cards being 1: The attack on Earth from the Diamonds 2: Being cracked and 3: Fusing with a corrupted gem) it finally resulted in the corruption of her arm permanently.

~ Is only depressed every once in a while, which is why she isnt fully corrupt

~ Still does her best to cheer up Onyx when shes depressed

~ Extremely gae for Onyx

Rhodonite

~ Onyx and Rhod usually live together as a fusion all the time, just like Garnet.

~ Strong enough to take down a Diamond

~ Very creepy

~ Looks like she would kill you, is actually a cinnamon roll

~ Doesnt do much with her power, just lays around all day.

    > in this case, being religious means being loyal to your diamond. onyx used to be very loyal to white, but as we know, onyx eventually "defied" her diamond. onyx is also depressed all the time, so she would call herself a fool-

you may think that I forced myself to make this whole story just to win the challenge, but when i made the characters, i kept thinking about them and eventually made them a backstory, which was proud of and wanted to share :D!

oh yeah, every single doodle in the story was drawn by me!

every piece of proof is in the comments!
