Rest in Pieces, I’ll Finish This

It was funny—if not absurd—to think that during the fight Red Diamond lost count of his shots. His gun’s barrel smoked profusely as if it was just as tired as he was. But in the end, he was the one who stood above the Tiger Eye and the Aventurian who were now shards.

He was given a job to hunt down “odd” corrupted gems and the one who controlled them. It was a bizarre description, but he knew better than to ask questions. Besides, the reward was a hefty one and there was a bonus if he brought the controller in on piece. It took him a while before he found the two gems that were listed. Like every other “hunt”, he remained invisible to them until he had a clean shot on the Aventurian gemstone located on her right hand. As soon as he took the shot, however, she summoned her arm guards that protected her gemstone. A fight ensued and, during such, the Tiger Eye transformed into her corrupted state. Soon, the Aventurian did the same.

Red wondered if they had the ability to change at will and if so, how did they accomplished this? In the reports, it was said that they had the ability to also take on a half form.

Well, it hardly mattered now.

As his weapon disappeared, he turned to leave the shards be when he noticed a black female gem in front of him. She was an obsidian by the looks of her. Her left eye was covered by her hair and what parts of her body that was exposed had black blobs. She wore human clothing, but her feet were bear.

“What happened here?” She asked, looking at the shards behind him.

“Corrupted gems were running amuck. I was disposing them.” She didn’t need to know what really happened here. At the very least, she may not be able to fully understand what really happened, because he sure didn’t.

“I see.” She said mournfully, “Then at the very least, can I play them a send off? I doubt it will do much, but the were like all other gems once.”

Red had no objection and let her him so that she could stand over the shards. Red decide to stay and listen. He had heard music in the past, but it was a real treat for him to hear music form a fellow gem.

She played long and loud. The music had an eerie sound, yet Red felt himself wanting to get closer to the source; relaxing, though he couldn’t bring himself to put his guard down. When she was done, he asked her if she had a name preference.

“First, tell me your name.” She said, turning towards him. Her smile was gentle and sweet.

“I have many names, but you can call me Red.”

“Red. Like Red Diamond?” Before Red could respond, she continued, “Not many gems have colors in their names and fewer have them as their first name. Don’t worry, I don’t really hate any Diamonds, so you’re safe there. My name is Obsidian Rebellion. I hope you my name as I will not forget you....”

Before Red could ask what she meant by that, she was already in-front of him.

In her right hand, a sword materialized and she thrusted it using her speed. Red was just fast enough to move out of the way, but he couldn’t counter her as she zoomed pasted.

Another sword appeared in her other hand and she used it to stop herself before she came after Red again. He was ready this time with his gun in hands and he fired at the on coming blitz. She avoided the shot by, once again, using her swords to maneuver around him. Red tried to hit her with his gun as she came from behind, but she slide under his legs and managed to get in the air hoping to kick him in the head. By instinct, Red rolled forward and tried to shoot her out of the air, but to no avail.

She landed a good distance in front of Red on all fours and her swords were gone. Now he had a good look at her face. It was twisted with anger.

“You will pay for what you did!” She screamed with tears running down her face. As she got up, she continued, “That being said, since you’re a Diamond, I’ll make sure your shards will be put to use.” She summoned two more swords and began to charge. As soon as she did, confusion washed over her face, then said face smacked the upside Red’s unseeable gun. He was now invisible.

Red took aim at her face, but she moved out of the way. Once she was up, she looked fiercely around the field looking for any sign of him. He took his time to reposition himself all the while getting some answers.

When he spoke, his voice boomed in such a way that no one could pinpoint exactly where he was. “I have to it. I didn’t expect you to be the one I was looking for. How did you do it; give gems the power to change from one from to the other?”

“They can corrupt themselves without me. But I doubt a handful of shards would be able to understand such a concept.”

Red shot at her twice. The first shot hit her, but second missed. She tried to run down where the shots come from, but he already side stepped. Once she was close enough, he shot her in the head making her tumble. She was sturdy if nothing else.

She got back up again looking battered but determined and began running again. This time, she stared running in circles using her swords to guide her direction. Red was within the circle and she ran faster and faster kicking up dirt. His invisibility began to break as a wall of wind and dirt grew taller. She was creating a miniature tornado. Soon, he was no longer invisible and, out of the dust torrent, Obsidian shot out with her swords swung back. While waiting for her next move, Red had changed his gun into its sword form. Seeing her coming, he raised his weapon and blocked the blow while leaving skid marks on the ground. For what seemed like a minute, they held their position. By some broken physics, she remained in the air. Now getting his bearings, Red took a step forward and slammed his sword down, making Obsidian bounce on the ground like a deflated ball. The force of her impact left a crater in the ground and the swing of Red’s sword disburse the tornado.

“This is pointless.” He said, though he was getting tired. “I defeated two of your soldiers and you haven’t put a scratch on me. Did you really think you could?”

Obsidian began to get up, though she struggled. “Against a Diamond? Of course not. But I thought I could try before the real fight begins.” She was now on her knees.

“What are you—” he was cut of by a squawk sound from behind him. He looked up and saw two large birds—scratch that—two large winged corrupted gems coming in our direction. Right after, four other corrupted gems surrounded me with one of them giving Obsidian .

“That song you played. It was a call for help, wasn’t it?”

“I told you I was going to make you pay. It’s possible more will come and eventually you will be over run. I to go by many names. From here on, you will call me Piper.”

Red looked around; two enemy above him and five surrounding him. He looked at Obsidian and raised his sword. “Well, if nothing else, you just made my day a lot more interesting.”
