Steven Universe Domez by UCC Distributing are now available! This is an exciting set of 8 toys that are to be sold as Blind Bag items . . . Or if you had access to San Diego Comic Con merchandise, there was a special set of them where you could get them all at once in a pretty, shiny Cookie Cat case.

Inside:

Let's take a look at that awesome packaging first:

And here are the figures taken out of the box:

As you can see, they are STACKABLE-- they have latches on them designed to hook them together horizontally and vertically. This is one way the manufacturer shows they really know collectors: we all lack shelf space! Stackable figures are genius.
But one huge design flaw...is that the dome bit does not come off without breaking the tabs underneath. They should really know that some collectors would not like being unable to remove the dome. It makes this toy feel like it is ONLY designed for display, not playing. Boo.
Let's take a look at the designs. The very interesting aspect of this set is that unlike any other Blind Bag set, it LACKS THREE OUT OF THE FOUR OF THE MAIN CAST. What is this, you say? The set does not have Garnet, Amethyst, or Pearl?? How odd!
The tradeoff is pretty great though. Because this set...includes the very first official toy merchandise of Ruby and Sapphire.

They are truly adorable. Very nice expressions, true to the show, nothing creepy like some toys have.
Next pair: Watermelon Farmer Steven and Watermelon Steven.

This is a weird choice beyond all weird choices. We have Steven EATING WATERMELON which he did in the episode "Watermelon Steven"--the body of the sentient watermelon baby that saved him. This doesn't necessarily look like that scene, but eating watermelon calls to mind some very specific images for this show. And speaking of...
The Watermelon Steven, if you will recall, is pulled from "Super Watermelon Island." It is the watermelon possessed by Steven and dressed up for sacrificial offering to Malachite.
So...we have Steven possessing a watermelon and causing it to be murdered by a Fusion monster, paired with a version of Steven that's eating a watermelon's dead body.
Cute toys! Cute show! For kids!

Next we have Rose and Lion.

If you look closely at Rose, she has her slightly unsettling grin on--in a pose similar to her image in the extended opening, except you can see her eyes. While Lion is just, ya know, Lion around.
And lastly: Lapis and Peridot.

I'm thrilled to have more merch of them because they are usually excluded from smaller merch sets in favor of including Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl. Some sets, like Original Minis, have Peridot but not Lapis, but the large Funko sets like Mystery Minis and Pint Size Heroes have both.
Here we have them looking really cute, with Peridot's angry green dorito face and Lapis's small smile. I do kinda wish they'd give us a moodier Lapis and a Lapis without her wings, since she spends very little time on the show sporting a smile or wings. But there's no merch of her looking meh except in the inside pages of the Make Art! (On Purpose) meepmorp book recently.
Anyway, I love these Domez and don't know what to do because the box display and the stacking toy option are both really cool!
