The Fate of Lemon Sapphire

"You were her FRIEND!"

"And she was mine."

"How could you then?! H-How could you break her?!"

Tears gushed out of Lemon Sapphire's eye as she mustered the strength to stand. She was exhausted and beyond distraught.

"YOU MONSTER! You monster how could you? She CARED about you! You were her friend and you broke her?! WHY?!"

"I should be asking YOU that!"

Lemon Sapphire stopped, utterly confused by what Magenta Sapphire had just said.

"What you think, you think I WANTED to do this?" Magenta began to chuckle, "hah you think I WANTED to break her? Hahaha."

Her laughing was abruptly cut short and she turned back to face Lemon Sapphire, no longer smiling or laughing but now furious. Lemon Sapphire was shocked by Magenta Sapphire's change in disposition. While she did not know Magenta for long, she had never once seen her lose her cool or become angry. But right now that's what she was: angry.

"She WAS my friend! In fact she went that way BECAUSE she was my friend!"

Magenta paused and Lemon stared at her. She was genuinely confused by what she meant by this, but it appeared Magenta was conflicted about the matter as well. When she finally resume speaking, it appeared as if she was talking moreso to herself than to Lemon, as if she was trying to reassure herself instead, "She went peacefully, I made sure there was no pain, I made sure she wouldn't struggle. Yes her gem will break as a result but she did not suffer, I made absolutely sure of it."

"That...that doesn't matter, she's still gone."

"Yes it does! She didn't suffer! Because of ME she didn't suffer and because of YOU she had to be broken!"

"...what?"

Lemon was sure she had misheard Magenta but sure enough she had not. Her fault...?

"WHAT?! HOW is any of this my fault?! YOU were the one that broke her! YOU were the one that shattered Indian, Aquamarine, Blue, Pearl! EVERYONE! YOU!"

"But YOU were the the one who couldn't mind their own business! YOU were the one who intervened in my plans! One gem! I only needed one Sapphire and it was your Indian friend. That was it, maybe the Aquamarine would've gone as collateral damage but that's it. The rest of your friends would have been alive and well right now, including Sapphire! But no!"

Her fault? H-her fault? That was ridiculous, she intervened because she had to! They were her friends, she was trying to look out for them. She did the right thing...didn't she? Magenta was the one in the wrong not her. Yet despite telling herself these things, Lemon could not help but hesitate.

My fault? My-my fault?

"YOU had to get involved. YOU had to complicate things. YOU had to ruin everything! For EVERYONE! For me, for Sapphire, for your friends, and now for you."

No...no.

That couldn't be true. Magenta was the one shattering gems. All she did was make a call. A call.

No!

Lemon shook her head and backed away, refusing to believe it was true. Yet despite her efforts, her thoughts explored that possibility and she found herself staggering and crumbling down. She fell forward, tears streaming down nonstop.

I was the one who lost my communicator. Blue was the one who told me to replace it countless times. I was the one who refused and instead just used hers. They were able to get to her because of that call I made. Because of...me. No...n-no!

"You were a witness. You would've told Sapphire eventually. I could chalk up that other Sapphire and that Aquamarine disappearing to a failed mission, but TWO Sapphires missing? And a Pearl too? No...she would've asked questions. And you would've been there to give her answers. See I didn't WANT to do it, but YOU left me no choice! You made me do it! Haha so it IS on you. It IS your fault. All of it!"

No! No, this doesn't make any sense. I...I could've ran away. I could've ran away! I was right there! They hadn't seen me and I chose to scream. I chose to scream and made them aware of my presence. I...Sapphire is gone because I made the wrong decision. Again. Just like with Blue. They're shattered because of...me.

Lemon trembled on the ground, her self-doubt completely engulfing her. Tears stained her clothing and fell onto her hands. Unbeknownst to her, Magenta had pulled out a clear bottle full of black liquid.

"But don't worry, you can atone for your wrongdoings right now."

Lemon shot up. Despite her tears clouding her vision, she could see that Magenta was approaching her. She was holding another one of her potions. The sight of the bottle lit a fuse inside Lemon. She was enraged.

"Those potions...all of this happened because of your STUPID POTIONS!"

Lemon sprang up and charged at Magenta. Completely caught off-guard, Magenta stumbled backwards and dropped the bottle.

"Wha...what are you doing?"

Using the fact that Magenta was startled to her advantage, Lemon set her sights on Magenta's large cauldron. She lunged at it and pushed it over, the contents spilling all over the floor.

"AAAAAAAAAAHH!"

Magenta was too shocked to function, she ran toward the cauldron in a feeble attempt to save the spilled contents. She desperately tried scooping the liquid back into it, but the mixture simply fell through her fingers. Lemon wasted no time and began knocking everything down in Magenta's makeshift shop: bottles, jars, potions, vials, scrolls, books.

"MY POTIONS! Stop!"

In her desperation, Magenta grabbed one of the few bottles of poison potions that hadn't been broken and threw it at Lemon. While the bottle missed her gem, the glass crashed on Lemon's head and the black substance coated her face.

"Gahh!"

Lemon fell on the floor and tried to wipe the liquid off. In her hurried attempts, some drops of the potion managed to stain her gem. Immediately, she felt something was wrong. Her vision. Even after she had wiped the liquid off her face, her vision began to fade. She could see Magenta desperately trying to salvage the remains of her potion bottles, shards, and scrolls, but it all began to darken. She saw Golden Pearl arrive and ask Magenta what had happened, yet slowly that image was beginning to become obscured by darkness.

"I....I can't see. I can't see!"

She blinked and wiped her eye but no matter what, her vision would not come back. She stood up and staggered backwards. Completely shocked and terrified, Lemon turned and ran.

"Magenta she's getting away!" Lemon heard Golden Pearl say but she continued running.

"Let her! Help me save the potions and shards!"

"But what about the Sapphire?"

"Forget about her. She's blind now. She won't go far. Defects have no place here on Homeworld."

Running. That's all she could do. Run and run, no matter what she bumped into, no matter if she couldn't see where, she had to continue. Lemon ran and ran until she was exhausted. Finally, she tripped over on something and fell forward. Feeling pure defeat, she remained and started crying.

She was alone in the darkness. She didn't know where she was or where she could go. She lied there, sobbing, despite being an optimistic gem, she could see no light of hope at the end of this tunnel. She couldn't see anything at all.

"What's that sound?" a voice called.

Despite her gut telling her to freeze and be quiet, Lemon could not stop crying. She gasped and continued to sob. This was it for her.

"It's coming from over here," another voice chimed.

The voices began to sound closer and closer. She could hear their steps approaching her. Before long, Lemon was trembling.

"Please...p-please don't hurt me," she pleaded. She felt genuine fear but she was too drained and tired to run.

"A Sapphire? What are you doing out here? No one goes to the outskirts."

"Don't...d-don't," Lemon managed to say before she fell unconscious.

The two figures exchanged looks before reaching towards Lemon.

She awoke to the face of a giant woman looking down at her.

"Oh, you're awake."

Lemon's eye widened at the proximity of the large woman before her. Normally the fact that she could see would make for a happy moment, but the huge gem towering over her stopped such happiness dead in its tracks. She took a step back in horror. Where was she? Who was this large gem? What happened to the two voices she had heard before? How could she see again?

So many questions swarmed through her head but Lemon was speechless, terrified yet captivated by the curious gaze of this giant woman.

The woman smiled.

"Welcome. I am Amora."
