Now that we know Lapis didn't sing Escapism, and seeing that it was Pink Diamond herself who started the war for Earth, I believe that I've figured out who sings the ambiguous song.

Pink Diamond sang Escapism shortly before creating the character of Rose.

Yes it was very late and I now realize that I messed up her skirt thing.

Pink refers to "this awful place" not as Earth, but rather as her place as a Diamond. She wanted to lead over a colony so desperately, and if she appears to be in doubt, it will only prove to the other Diamonds that she wasn't ready, and her subjects will feel unsure.

Pink Diamond is pained to see that colonization is killing life on Earth, but as a Diamond, she's expected to want this.

This is what she asked for, but it's nothing like what she wanted.

Pink doesn't want to destroy her planet, she wants the freedom to do whatever she wants with her world. She doesn't want to have to share it with the empire.

Rose is Pink Diamond's method of escapism.

The rebellion was entertaining to her, a fulfillment of her fantasy.

All of this repeats after the war, when Rose must face the consequences of her actions. She goes on for thousands of years, not showing a "trace of doubt". But once again, she'd rather be free.

So she leaves Rose, and decides to find more entertainment by watching what Steven does with all of her problems.

Garnet expected Steven to act the same way that Rose and Pink Diamond did, even if she hadn't acknowledged that the latters did so. But Steven doesn't want to ESCAPE his problems, he wants to SOLVE them.

Garnet was right to say that Pink Diamond was a villain, and Eyeball was right to say that Rose was.

Steven now must face each and every problem created by

the antagonist, Rose Quartz.
