I’m still developing a diamond OC, but in of OP characters I have one named Lonsdaleite. Her story is that she was the first gem and created the diamonds (this is incredibly watered down and doesn’t really do it justice to be honest). I know it already sounds awful, but I try to balance it out? She is incredibly powerful, but her motives are often unclear and she’ll do both good and evil things without explanation. She has a tendency to leave society to the diamonds and for the most part stays out of the way, as she’s busy with other thing.
I mainly use her as a plot device for some of my characters and she was actually created for a roleplay, made to be a type of end-all boss.
What I’m trying to say here is that I think OP characters can go both ways. I do like them if they’re done correctly. I also like Lonsdaleite because I can use her as a way to separate the show’s canon universe from my own.
Tbh, I’ve come across diamond OC’s and it’s really an iffy thing. If they can stick to not being OP and perfect in every way, it can work out. Even though Diamonds seem all that, Yellow still cries, Blue still helped Steven even though he was the prisoner, Pink was shorter, and White had pink blush.
No one or gem is perfect and Diamond OC’s are part of that too :/
It kinda depends. I don’t not like them but I’m not crazy about them. I wouldn’t have one as an OC. Like, if you have/make an OP character, I wouldn’t make it like a Ruby with ultra mega powers that could obliterate you in a second. Make it realistic (in su logic). White diamond is a while different story though. She’s supposedly the strongest gem and possibly the creator of gems so her having a lot of power is understandable! But I feel to make a good OP character, you have to have a good backstory, gem, all that and make it realistic.

Op Characters are really hurt or miss.
As for diamonds, I don't mind them any more than any other Gemsona. Sure they're more likely to be OP Characters, but I don't mind that their diamonds.
I have a diamond OC named Hope Diamond, who was the leader of the diamond alliance until Red Diamond rebelled.
Hope hid her colonies and herself and was never seen again, leaving the rest of the Diamond alliance to fall to ruin.

I used to hate Diamond Gemsonas, but now I’m at with them and even own some :) The key is to make sure they aren’t overpowered and flawless
