Amethyst x Peridot

Even before the groundbreaking episode Too Far, Peridot and Amethyst displayed a Tom and Jerry-esque dynamic that hinted towards future moments. When they do talk in Too Far, they hit it off immediately. Amethyst helps Peridot discover her sense of humor, and Peridot helps Amethyst discover her origins.

Some have argued that Amethyst even helped Peridot discover what emotions were, as Amethyst is the first time Peridot felt sorry for her mistakes.

Amethyst and Peridot bring out important development every time they interact. While helping Peridot have fun at Funland, Amethyst teaches Peridot about shapeshifting. When she can't do it, Amethyst accidentally discovers and then encourages Peridot's metal powers.

When Amethyst is depressed after her fight with Jasper, Peridot tries to cheer Amethyst up in her own quirky ways. When Amethyst says she wants to fight Jasper, Peridot immediately tries to stop her to protect her from getting hurt. Peridot also cheers on Smoky Quartz.

Amethyst and Peridot have had a lot of small moments together and even hints that they are hanging out off-screen too. They are clearly very close, and trust each other enough to share insecurities that they wouldn't share with others.

Like Ruby and Sapphire, their color palettes, personalities, and character designs contrast beautifully: long hair, short hair. Warm color, cool color. Curvy lines, sharp lines. Fat, skinny. Cool kid, nerdy kid. Earthling, alien. Soldier, mechanic. Heart gem, head gem. Emotion, reason.

They are also similar in many important ways: both are young Era 2 gems, both are small (but aren't supposed to be), both are insecure about their size, both are new to relationships, both are very open with each other, both like TV, neither has witnessed the gem war, both need to learn something the other has knowledge about.

They almost seem as if they were made to be together.

Sometimes they disagree. Their relationship on the show isn't finished, nor is it perfect. But Amethyst and Peridot are young gems; they're not meant to be finished or perfect. I think their relationship is meant to grow slowly and gradually. But I am confident that it will happen.
