The short begins with the ringing of a school-bell and a title card reading: The Crystal Gems.

With a small poof, the word "Crystal" is changed to "Classroom", and all four of the gems are heard chanting, "The Classroom Gems!"

Followed by them asking, "What are gems?"

Pearl says: "Welcome to gem classroom. I'm Pearl, and today we're going to talk about what gems are."

*A Ruby, Sapphire and an Amethyst appear on Pearl's chalkboard.*

Pearl: "Simplified down to our basic form, gems are, well, just gems!"

*Pearl laughs*

Pearl: "Our bodies are actually projections generated by our gemstone. Think of it like a hologram, but with mass."

*Garnet and Amethyst appear on the board, showing off their gems.*

Amethyst (To Garnet): "Nice mass!"

Garnet (Situating her visors): "I know."

*Pearl clears her throat*

Pearl: "Though Gems and extraordinarily resilient, if they're seriously hurt, they will release their physical form."

*Garnet hits Amethyst in her head*

Amethyst: "YOW!"

*Amethyst is poofed, and all that is left is her purple gemstone*

Pearl: "And poof back to just their gem!"

*Garnet picks up Amethyst's gem*

Garnet: "Harumph!"

Pearl: "This way, they can most efficiently put all of their energy into regenerating themselves."

*Garnet starts to toss the gem up and down*

Pearl: "And when a gem is reduced to it's gemstone, it can be contained in a bubble, or trapped in an object making it impossible to reform."

*Garnet bubbles Amethyst*

Pearl: "But don't worry,"

*Garnet pops Amethyst's bubble*

Pearl: "As long as the gemstone isn't damaged, the gem will be able to regenerate."

*Amethyst reforms*

Amethyst: "Ta Da! Check me out!" *Giggles* "I'm as good as new."

Pearl: "But, if a gem's gemstone is cracked..."

*Amethyst grows a third arm out of her head*

Amethyst: "Things get REALLY weird..."

Pearl: "And if a gem's gem is shattered completely, they'll cease to be."

*Amethyst flexes*

Amethyst: "Good thing I'm super tough!"

Garnet: "Mm hm..."

*Garnet summons her left gauntlet, and swings at Amethyst*

Amethyst: "Woah! Not that tough!"

*Garnet summons her other gauntlet and begins to chase Amethyst off of the chalkboard*

*Amethyst shrieks*

Pearl: "That's all for today's lesson."

*Amethyst is chased by Garnet into the room that Pearl is in*

Pearl: "Woah!"

*Pearl clears her throat again, louder this time. Steven is shown sitting at a desk in front of Pearl*

Steven: "Wait, I have a question..."

*Garnet and Amethyst run by him, Amethyst screaming, but Steven ignores them*

Steven: "What if a gem is half human?"

Pearl: "That is a very good question! The answer, is you!"

*Steven gasps*

Steven: "Meeeeeeeee!"

Pearl: "Why don't you write an essay on what it's like to be yourself."

Steven: "What's an essay?"

Pearl: "Er... Class dismissed!"

*Another school bell rings and an image is shown reading, "Class Dismissed!" and the short ends.*
