Hullo Hullo! There were a handful of lovely artworks last February :cherry_blossom: . Here are some that really stood out. Let’s get started!

The artist did a really good job in drawing this scene. I especially adore the way they drew and colored Granmamare’s wavy hair and the added glow and sparkles all over her is just so pretty! Great job! Click on their actual post to see progress photos of this artwork.

The art style with this drawing is absolutely stunning in an intense sort of way. The eyes of San are just screaming and the blood on her mouth is terrifyingly and perfectly drawn! This scene was definitely a good choice to draw and the artist gave this scene justice!

This is such a cute sketch! The anatomy is drawn well and the art style and pose are just so adorable! Their facial expressions and all those little details on their clothes and hair are just perfect! What a pretty Valentine’s Day post! Awesome job!

Hello Ghibli community and it’s that time of the month once again to spotlight a great post for the month. Throughout the month I’ve seen really good posts in regards to Valentine’s Day from really great people. There were so many good ones I’ve had a hard time choosing this time around. So after doing some serious thinking I decided the post I’d spotlight for the month is… “Day 30: Difference in Life Without Ghibli” by Summer Nights!!! http://aminoapps.programascracks.com/p/e22alnp

In this post Summer Nights finishes the 30 day challenge and talks about how their life would be different without Studio Ghibli. It’s always interesting to hear exactly how much Ghibli movies impact is and what would be different in our lives. So seeing this and hearing what would be different is why I decided to spotlight this post for the month.

:tulip: STAFF SPOTLIGHT :tulip:

by: Rin

Hello and welcome to this month’s edition of the Staff Spotlight! I’m your host Rin aka best girl and this month I had the pleasure to interview Louis! So let’s get into said interview.

1. Besides Ghibli, what other movies do you like?

Gosh my list is huge, I’m actually a movie maniac 🤪

I love all kinds of movies except war.

But my biggest favorite genre of movies is horror, not the ones with a lot of blood and carnage with bulging guts, but more the paranormal ones.

ooh and zombie movies, okay, okay, that’s also with a lot of blood and bulging guts :see_no_evil: but I can’t help it how funny and stupid they all are.

I actually started a couple of days watching a new series “All of us are dead”. I saw the whole season in two days, I just couldn’t get enough of it.

I also like Thrillers, very exciting to sit on the edge of my seat at night, alone in the dark  .

Disney has also captured my heart since I was little, I guess.. not to brag,.. that I have about 90 blurays in my collection.

oooh and Star wars, Marvel, Tim Burton should definitely not be missing from my Movie list.

2. What are some of your hobbies?

Baking is something I really enjoy doing.

It really relaxes me, usually I don’t eat what I bake.

Well let us say, my bf is my biggest cookie- monster fan of my baking creations :see_no_evil:

3. What’s your favorite fictional series?

Book series, Well I don’t read much, I have a few Ghibli novels.

Nice to read those books, they are slightly different from the movie itself.

My favorite is My Neighbor Totoro. I’ve read this almost six times already, it’s very relaxing, especially since I can’t sleep at night.

TV series, then it’s the walking dead ofcourse 🤷‍♀

4. What is your favorite piece of merch?

My favorite Ghibli merch are my music boxes. They are clear plastic capsules, containing a scene of Totoro in the forest, Spirited away in the bathhouse and kiki delivery with lilly and the kittens.

Then when you spin it, that scene moves with a beautiful songs of the movie ♡

There’s actually another one, but I can’t find it anywhere, that’s Ponyo’s :pensive:

Non-Ghibli merchandise, then I would say my handmade dolls from my Russian friend Agafia.

She has golden hands, a magical way of seeing things in life and that you can see in her creatures she makes.

You can often see some dolls from my collection in my profile picture and in my bio.

5. What type of music do you listen to/favorite songs?

I actually listen to all kinds of music. But my favorite are the songs from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s..., Waw now I must sound as a old lady

Aaaand of course, music by Ghibli should certainly not be missing in my daily life. When I am at home I can enjoy playing some songs on my record player, while cleaning my house, or during long journeys in my car.

6. If you could visit any Ghibli world, which would you visit?

Then I would choose the world of Totoro,

I love Japanese culture and especially their landscapes.

How nice must it be to live in an old farmhouse, grow your own vegetables, and beautiful rice fields.

and icing on the top, you have cuddly fluffy friends in the forest who can fly and pull trees out of the ground.

And tiny susuwatari’s under my bed hiding to come out when it’s night. So I would definitely never vacuum the house :see_no_evil:

7. What is your favorite post you’ve done here?

The posts I always had the most fun making are my “Muta sweet tooth posts” where I explain everything about how to make a kiki cake, Totoro Gingerbread cookies, etc..

you can find these recipes in a wiki on my bio.

It’s been a while, but I was actually thinking a couple of weeks ago to restart making those posts every now and then.

But time has been robbing all my precious minutes lately.

:sunflower: :blossom: :sunflower: :blossom: :sunflower:

Big thank you to Louis for allowing me to interview them! It was nice getting to know you better! And thank you for reading! I hope to see you next month! Until next time!

:cherry_blossom: DID YOU KNOW? :cherry_blossom:

by: Rere

Hello all, I will be covering this section of the newsletter!!

Here are some facts you may not have known about Studio Ghibli.

1. Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki co-founded Studio Ghibli together. Takahata discovered both Miyazaki and Joe Hisaishi, the composer for many Studio Ghibli films.

2. Hisaishi was asked to re-score some of the music for the English release of Castle in the Sky. According to Disney, Ghibli’s North American distributor, markets outside of Japan weren’t comfortable with large gaps without music. In the original Castle in the Sky, there is only an hour of music in the 124-minute movie.

3. The films that Miyazaki directs are entirely in his vision. He storyboards everything himself and uses those images as a script. Production begins before the boarding finishes, so no one, including Miyazaki, knows how the film will end.

4. Though many consider Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind to be the first Studio Ghibli film, its release predates the studio’s founding. The first Ghibli film was Castle in the Sky.

5. Witnessing the1984 Miners’ Strike in Wales impacted Miyazaki, and subsequently influenced Castle in the Sky as it is partially set in a mining town.

6. Miyazaki based Chihiro, the main character of Spirited Away, on his observations of the 10-year-old daughter of one of his friends during a retreat to his mountain cabin.

7. The main town in Kiki’s Delivery Service is modeled after Stockholm, San Francisco, Paris, and places in Ireland and Italy. The setting was created by imagining a 1950s where a war never happened.

8. To get the scene where Chihiro pushes her hand into Haku’s mouth just right, the animators recorded a vet opening a dog’s mouth as a reference.

That’s right, everybody. We’ve got more news about the Ghibli theme park! Some good news for those who are even able to afford going to Japan in the first place: it seems those in charge of the Ghibli part want to make their tickets cheaper compared to competition (being Disney and Universal). While those tickets are around $90, Ghibli wants their full-access tickets to be a mere $35! (in USD).

:sunflower: TOPIC DISCUSSION :sunflower:

by: Haku

Hi everyone, welcome to my section^^

For this month newsletter question is:

Favourite Song ?

For me it’s The Bygone Days(Porco Rosso). The tune perfectly fits the protagonist’s jaded – but not yet all-consuming – bitterness and longing for what could have been.

The Winds of War and Life(The Wind Rises). The acoustic guitar and the strings slow things down to show Jiro and Naoko contemplative and innocent love. The winds like the clarinet and flute soar throughout to reflect the exhilarating and unpredictable nature of the wind. Musical form fits the story’s function as the music mirrors the experience of wind rising. Overall, the soundtrack is bright but dampened by the trials of life.

Now let’s see the Answers:

Miesumae’s Answer:

My favourite Ghibli song would have to be “merry go round of life” from Howl’s moving castle. It’s just so lovely and encomes the feelings of Howl and Sophie. To me this song is so warm and charming and sounds like something someone would dance to at a wedding.

Ellie’s Answer:

My pick is ‘The Canal at Dusk’ from ‘From Up On Poppy Hill’. If recollection of a painful past had a background soundtrack, this would be it. :3

I’m joking but yes, it may not be for everyone. It’s 1:50 minutes short but it’s still a beautiful composition. Melancholic but beautiful.

Sparthro’s Answer:

For me, my favourite song has to go to “The Sixth Station ‘’ which is the song which plays during the train scene in’’ Spirited Away. It has always sounded so ethereal to me, and it feels like a short break, for both the viewer and Chihiro. This scene is just so beautiful, with the world going by just outside of the cabin, and the enger’s staying quiet waiting for their stop on the inside. Nothing has topped that for me.

Summer Nights’s Answer:

All the Ghibli songs are amazing! I love listening to them all. However, I really like the song “One summer’s Day” from Spirited Away. It is a very relaxing song and I listen to it all the time when I am bored or when I study. It is one of my favourite songs from one of my favourite movies!

Thank you all for answers !!<3

:blossom: CLOSING QUOTE :blossom:

by: Haku

”You must be the change you                                         wish to see in the world.”                                                             ~Gandhi

:bouquet: :bouquet: :bouquet:

It’s easy to get frustrated by all the violence and pain being experienced around the world, and even easier to feel helpless about it. But rather than sitting around waiting for the world to change, it’s better to start making changes within your own sphere of influence. The theory behind this quote is that if everyone tended to their own selves the world would be the way we all want it to be. What can you do today that would help make the world around you a better place? By making the changes you wish the world would make you instantly and automatically make the world better.
