:seedling: Firstly HAPPY EARTH DAY! :seedling:

There’s so much beauty, elegance and life in the nature around us on this wonderful planet, in need of protection from urbanisation and climate change...

I’m very ionate about this, and have been planning on doing a blog about Ghibli vs Climate change for a while now, ( which is still coming!), but for today I’ll be sharing some of my green art and talking about the significance of My neighbour Totoro in showing the beautify of nature in need of protection...

:seedling: I hope you’ll like it! ( you might recognise some of the art  , also sorry if there’s writing in it, this is from my school art project) :seedling:

1- RESPECTING THE POWER OF NATURE

Shortly after having arrived at their new home, the Kusakabes walk through the beautiful woodlands and arrive at the camphor tree...

I love this scene...

This adorable family thank the magnificent tree and ask it to watch over their family. I think through this Miyazaki shows the kindness and power of nature, and that we should all try to respect it.

2- PLANTING TREES AND THE ACORNS

As you all know, Saski and Mei are gifted with a little bag of acorns to plant in their garden...

Throughout the film they wait patiently for them to grow, until they get a little helping hand from Totoro! This scene where the shoots, trunks and leaves fly upwards towards the sky is magical, and I wish that out forests that have been destroyed could grow back like this...

I feel that through this Miyazaki is giving us some hope that we can plant more trees and try to help nature to regrow in this world.

3-“YOU BE THE FLOWER SHOP, OK?”

This scene is so adorable...

Mei places her little dandelions on the edge of Tatsuo’s table and then runs off again... He picks one up and ires it, and I think we should all look at the little unnoticed but beautiful parts of nature like this.

4- TOTORO AND THE SCENERY

Throughout My neighbour Totoro and almost all of Miyazaki’s films, I am constantly amazed and inspired by how magical and natural every leaf, tree and landscape looks...

By showing it in such an undisturbed and beautiful way, he shows us how nature should remain and how we should protect it...

Finally... Totoro! We all love this adorably fluffy, smiley and sleepy spirit... But not only is he all these things, with a kind and caring nature, he is a spirit of the forest. Miyazaki could have created a spirit for this film from anything, but he chose a forest spirit, showing how important nature is...

Totoro inspires us! We should follow his ways! The earth is a thing to enjoy not to destroy! Planting a tree can be such a fun thing to do and if you do plant anything you should think that Totoro will be proud:) :green_heart: :leaves: :tanabata_tree: :ok_hand:
